Most of the locations were in Dorset - I suspect the big problem they had was finding a suitable town centre which had the right sort of buildings in the juxtaposition the Director wanted and which the art dept could back date.

One of the oddest recently was the BBC's Jamaica Inn, where they used Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria to represent Launceston - went up a couple of times to watch filming, and it was quite amazing how they managed to disguise everything and give a real period feel - shame that when the show was broadcast the sound was also disguised as to be unintelligible!

There's an amusing location coming shortly on, I think, ITV in a prgramme about the Great Fire of London - it was filmed in a field about a mile or so from us (and we didn't even hear the fire engines).

Been working at home all day while the car was re-tyred. Then we went shopping, a day early. But it was via the pet shop where the cost of two new dog beds came to more than the weekly shop.

However, apart from long distance firefighting on the systems got quite a bit done. Have to do it more often.

Tony, that reminds me of a close relative that thought she had significant medical knowledge as she was married to a Dr.  :scratchhead:

Dinner time conversation at their house must have been scintillating!

Aditi's sister is a doctor and specialises in the topic Aditi was enquiring about. Dinner times in medical households can be "interesting". We were sitting down to dinner one evening when Aditi's father was still a GP when he said that he was glad Aditi was there as he had a French letter he wanted to show her. Cue much sniggering.

........ Strangely enough I always got the impression that Aditi's family didn't think she was very bright, her sister was always the "clever one" and Aditi was the "nice one". I think it is because she isn't mathematical or scientific, though she did teach statistics to first year undergraduates (though I suppose some would say stats are not maths or science anyway).

In our family, my older sister was regarded as the pretty one but she failed the eleven plus and I passed it! She was also very compliant and I was the rebel. I guess I haven't changed that much, actually..........!

Whereas I did quite well at my A levels but had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up. So I did a history degree because I found History interesting and therefore something I could do. I chose Leeds because it meant I didn't have to study Hitler again - but I could study Vikings and Genghis Khan and Marco Polo - and this was reinforced by the neon sign outside the station in Leeds proclaiming " Real Ale 52p a pint". Even after I grew up, I had no idea what to do so I did what everyone else did and became an accountant (and specialised in tax). The best part of 30 years later I still have no idea what I want to do - although winning the lottery holds a certain career path attraction.....

I was supposed to go to Imperial College but that looked too far from home so I came to Leeds Uni. I had relatives in Leeds, beer was reasonably cheap, I could play Rugby (initially Union only but managed to play a clandestine game or two of League as well)... We moved down south when we left uni and after a while in Bragbury End, and Didcot came back to Leeds 28 years ago... and ...its still an interesting place and I finally found out what I want to do .... enjoy life!

I think Aditi was really irritated by her mother telling her (through her teenage years) that she was stupid enough to get pregnant and bring shame on the family name. Aditi is sixty and still is has to remind her Mum that she isn't stupid and knows what she is doing!

I was a scraper. Scraped 'O' levels, scraped 'A' levels, scraped a degree. Then decided that was enough edukashun, get out and enjoy life.

Sherry, as a fellow Christian, might I give you a biblical quotation: Matthew 10 : 14.

Love it - and I'm an atheist! I did say to Sherry last night that she needs to shake the sand from her shoes and go elsewhere for her worship in future. I am the first to acknowledge the Bible has some useful (= quotable) tracts relating to real life.

With all the effort that Sherry has put into church activities in the last 3 years, this is all unfortunate from many standpoints. Some of the congregation are now getting the vibe about what has happened, and I think the vic, who is still quite new there, might have shot a couple of toes off.

Just got sorted out from loading the tram in Manchester, now have to guide it into the centre of Leeds tomorrow morning at 6.45am to get it into place.  I had a route all worked out that took it through the inner ring road tunnels which are labelled as 15'9".  When we measured it on the trailer (That had arrived 2.5hrs late) it was 15' 7" high so rather than risk it I surveyed another route tonight at 8.30pm and it works with no low bridges.  So hope it all works well.  It's going to have pictures of tram passengers in the 1920's projected onto it's windows from the inside.  It should look good tomorrow evening.

Ian, very sorry to hear about Sherry's problems I hope that she works things out.

Evening all,

Ian, I like that sandy reference to Bill's section of Matthew, I've used that phrase in the past on more temporal matters because, like you I feel the bible is full of splendid quotable phrases! I am just so sorry for Sherry as she seems to have put a lot into the life of that church and it must hurt to be treated so shabbily by a bigot.

Pete(Trisonic), don't you find the American religions just a little odd or do we see the worst of them on TV here?

Look out Baz, Debs is about!

Jamie I think that is a good call, we had a car transporter driver believe the sign on a Clacton railway bridge, not realising that the road had been recently re-surfaced. The net result was to turn one of our new Citroens into a cabriolet - needless to say, we sent it back! Look forward to the photographs later tomorrow.

POETS day with us again tomorrow and another week nearly gone!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Because I've been involved in the Pre School, Choir, Music Group, Messy Church and the PCC, I have accumulated a number of email addresses for church members which I used to notify them of my decision to leave and the circumstances which had precipitated it. The response has been interesting - all of the emails received in reply indicate shock, surprise, concern and puzzlement that this has happened. It seems that the Vicar can only cope with saints, not sinners!

There is a church opposite my new flat, on which I hope to complete today; it's dedicated to All Saints................!!! Imight give it a try!

And, as usual, the warm, supportive comments from many of you lovely folk have been heartening. Thank you.

Morning all…Thanks for the chuckles and views on life.  Just to add one to the pile..

Beautiful day yesterday.  Our own Seniors Championship and had my brother and two of his friends staying on Wednesday night as we had an early tee time on Thursday.  Much merriment over a decent curry and a few bottles of wine.  Despite the remains of a minor hangover, we all played well and John and I managed to get into the prizes.  Felt great and got home, happy as Larry.  An hour later got an email from my BiL in Spain with the news we were dreading.  Despite extensive surgery for her pancreatic cancer, the latest tests had shown this bastard disease had come back with a vengeance and my SiL now has two to six months on this planet. Nothing more can be done...

Puts the whole thing into perspective and make you realise what is really important in this fragile life of ours.  No need to comment as ER's is a fun place to be.  Just enjoy your life with your loved one whenever you can. You just don't know what's around the corner.

Morning all,

POETS day! - fat chance for me to leave early,  though four days "off" to follow !   Not much else to  report.  Still got all sorts of cr*p going around inside my head- I know what I want to do, I know  what I should do  - but still cant make my mind about what I'm going to do.

On another note  I got an e-mail from my ex  yesterday  asking me to  "Send me £1500 as I am stuck in Cyprus"  Now I knew some one had got in to her emails......as there is no way she would go to Cyprus  - and the nearest she's ever been to a plane is the drop off  point a Bristol airport!

Try and make the most of your day,

Trev.

Good morning all from the urine and BO perfumed 06:55 Southeastern service to London Charing Cross. Last day of course. My normal non-commute service will resume on Monday. Thank feck.

Robert, I've done 11 years on all 3,of the North Kent "metro" lines. Too much working from home has spoilt me. Southeastern seem to taken all the worst bits of BR and Connex as their service and "management" style. There are a lot of people in SE London and Kent that despair at the thought of 4 more years of these Sh1tweasels.

Enough ranting. Have a good weekend all.

If you think that's bad , well today I got out the house to catch an earlier train to get in earlier at work due to having to leave early for Graham's Dads funeral this afternoon.

The Thameslink was cancelled from Redhill due to a signal error, so I believe they wrongly routed it via the quarry line and my next alternative train is late so it's on what was our normal LBG service to queue up along the platform. Just caps off a bad week on Southern / Thameslink or what ever it's now called (not all thier fault as TOCs though as there's bern signal failures wired down at City Thsmeslink along with trwin faults). Now how do I trust them getting me to Haywards Heath in time for the funeral without having to leave work hours beforehand!!!

Morning, dry, grey cloud with a breeze here and a high of 19c, rain tomorrow  and a high of 12. Plans altered so tomorrow will be a shed/modeling/radio on and playing trains day. All this with the camp commandants approval whilst she has a baking day. Sounds to good to be true but we will see.

Enjoy your day folks

Bonjour, le monde.

Bright but misty. Slightly cool as Julie left the windows open last night.

Morning easement enlivened by a murder of crows dancing a hornpipe on the roof above my head.

Haven't caught up with everything yet, so a generic good wish or two to all.

Today's events include lunch, shopping and a trip to a depôt vente. My breath is bated.
