Test match tickets sorted. 5day pass for £100 against one day at £50. No brained, so tickets in the (green egg box) Freddie Trueman enclosure sorted.

Bit of modelling done today but far too nice not to have a breath of fresh air...so fell asleep on the settee!

Ah well, no umpiring to do and its cracking the flags here.

Thanks. That was the conclusion I had come to. Probably wire the pieces together first, rather than clamp.

And MRJ 66 says tin one half, add flux, align second half, clamp, heat

But don't need to solder 100% of the surface - good tack will do

And clothes pegs make good clamps

Ours are plastic. I foresee problems...

Rather like when, at the age of 11, I poured molten lead into a Kitmaster tender (City of Truro) to weight it...

I've got some small metal clamps (welders' type) but I'm concerned they'll act as too much of a heatsink.

I can't try it at the moment because Julie's got a cupboard all over my workbench!

You can still get wooden clothes pegs, from the £ shop. (Hope you like wood smoke. :jester: )

Aft'noon all,

Ordinary run of night shifts for me just now...not sleeping long enough...feeling half awake during the afternoon etc etc. Then one of our US friends e-mails a few of his recent piccies...such as this one

...and whilst you're pleased at his good fortune, you do wonder where you went wrong....in terms of similar opportunities.

Dave

That’s a super P-38L, Lightning.... Got to be The Central Valley in the background, Shirley?

Best, Pete.

Evenin' all

Another warm day in la Sarthe - and I've seen the Vertigo Specialist! The headline has to be that - as many have wanted to be assured - gardening can be hazardous to the health. It appears my vertigo has probably been caused by my diligent attacks upon the highest growths on the hedgeline, causing me to spend extended periods with my head craned backwards, while Stihl etc did their thing. I have this afternoon spent several minutes with my head at funny and distinctly uncomfortable angles, and now have a sheet of instrucciones telling me what to do and not to do over the next couple of weeks. It includes sleeping only on my left side - something I have seldom done in living memory. But the alternative may be worse. If the cure isn't permanent and I go back for more treatment, I may well find myself inside a suspended cage that looks like something from a mediaeval torture chamber. Compared to what Jock, Don Bradley etc have experienced, it remains a bagatelle.

Hope your week is proceeding well, and volcanoes etc aren't spoiling your day.

Evening all.

Jock, it has been a pretty good season at Groudle, the weather has been kind which helps.  We have a high tourist profile, and indeed we were 'Tourist Attraction of the Year 2013' on Fraggle Rock. We have an asset in that one of our Directors is a local radio DJ, and is well conected in all media, culture and touristy things - he does us proud.  He has volunteered on the railway since a teenager (not sure how old he is, 30 ish maybe) and even lives across the Glen, he eats sleeps and er, yes well, Groudle Glen Railway.

On the progress front, Saturday sees the launch of our new passenger coaches, and very nice they are too, lottery funded thank you muchly.  They ribbon is being cut by the Queen's representative here, His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Adam Wood.   We;re not going, we hate stuff like that.  I'll be driving on Sunday though, should be passed out soon-ish, I'm currently a sort of passed fireman.

Other than that, not much to report, the boss is out at dog obedience, odd as we don't have a dog......I'm worried I will have to obey when told to sit soon.  Update - dog agility I am told by the newly arrived boss, I'm certainly not agile either!

Tony - I guess Mathew will be glad he isn't there, now!

I understand the weather in Nova Scotia today was a lot nicer than that.  How do I know that?  Simples - having had a quote for renewal of the Admiral multicar policy I duly rang to see if i could talk down the price (which I did, for both cars) and was assisted in all of this by a very helpful young lady called Tamira.

I know she was young because she told me when her birthday was and that she was a couple of years older than my son but shared a birth date; in the process of trying to fix up a date for him as well as getting 100 quid off his insurance (I can occasionally be a considerate father ;) ) I found out that said young lady was sitting in an office in Nova Scotia.  Makes a nice change from somewhere on the sub-continent but still worrying to discover that we now negotiate our insurance rates in transatlantic 'phone (but it was an excellent clear line, or satellite link).  Funny old world innit.

Definitely rising early tomorrow but won't be here until later in the day as I'm off to an undisclosed destination to carry out an undisclosed task involving an undisclosed xxxxxxx xxxxxx.  I understand someone will also be there carrying out an undisclosed task on another undisclosed xxxxxxx xxxxxx but a little bird tells me the immediate results of that might be visible to those who make their way to a certain event in the Midlands this coming weekend.

Evening all. I am feeling slightly less tired today, although the week seems to be dragging. I am sure we must be closer to the end of the week than Wednesday (well it almost is Wednesday!) Work has been ok again today, the new head teacher managed to appear at slightly better times when the children were actively engaged in Maths and Topic work.

The topic for the half term is all about "Famous People" and will feature the likes of Florence Nightingale / Mary Seacole, Samuel Pepys, Louis Braille, Sir Robert Peel, Tim Berners Lee and some bloke called Brunel! I think I may have the most fun with the last one! Today we started by thinking about the famous people children knew already. Interesting their responses. The usual rounds of Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi and Ronaldo were followed by members of One Direction, Cheryl was Cole, Simon Cowell and the Queen. The class also picked out Lewis Hamilton, Mo Farah and Roald Dahl from my picture clues, but none of them knew who David Cameron was, with one child asking if he was "James Bond". So there is my starting point!!

Evening all,

Nice bottle of Rhone Dick, what year is the St Joseph? I stuck to my glass of Montepulciano with dinner again today - hopefully back to the nightcap after seeing the specialist on the 18th! Did lick my lips though! Joanna bought some nice grippy stainless steel clothes pegs in 'The Range' and I've found all sorts of uses for them - got caught a couple of weeks ago clipping the barbecue cover on for instance!

Neil, I did go on the Groudle Glen web - site earlier today, and saw pictures of the new coaches, very nice indeed. Thanks for the information. Good luck with the next driving stint, it must feel like quite a responsibility when you're pulling a full rake? Cafe as well, it does look like a classy and well run attraction from the images.

Ian, I do hope your medic gets to the root of the problem - although you pronounce it a bagatelle, I find things that don't have a clear solution most worrying. I have always liked to know what I'm fighting although I suppose there is some logic in the diagnosis which cites strain on the neck as a symptom..

Pete (Trisonic), Mayzee looks lovely, daren't show the pic to Archie as, although he has been 'snipped' on vets advice, he is still quite amorous! He often stays at my daughters if we are away and she has two bitch Westies, Millie and Meg. He thinks it's Christmas when he goes there! Must say I'm impressed how gentle he is with them even though he's bigger than the two put together. He is the obvious leader of the pack should any threat loom however, such as a Wood Pigeon having the temerity to land on the lawn! Thanks for sharing the lovely images with us - she looks very clean. Archie is only bathed fortnightly, again on vets advice when Joanna first bought him, so he's only that clean for around 48 hours if you're lucky!

We've reached the hump again in double quick time, hope you all get over it comfortably,

Kind regards,

Jock.

It's a 2004, Jock. I thought I'd necked it all, but found a bottle when I was clearing out a wine rack to make way for Julie's new cupboard.

And it was most palatable.

Great find Dick, a most pleasant surprise?

Kind regards,

Jock.

Jock,

Mayzee’s allergic to something in my laughingly called lawn - as I don’t use chemicals it must be a weed... Totally agree on the clean thing! I’m thinking of building M. a little maze of artificial tunnels.

She weighs in at about 26lbs, Totally unafraid of anything - great at chasing 8ft tall deer out of the backyard. Little devils though, aren’t they? Not lap dogs at all.

Best, Pete.

Certainly agree with the little devils bit Pete! Archie is however very aware about my condition and has been very gentle with me since I came out of hospital - how does he know not to be his normal jump-up boisterous self? He is also fantastic with the great grand children, he and Freddie(3) are the best of buddies and stick close together - Freddie has of course grown up with Archie and my grandson, his dad, insisted that they get acquainted very early, albeit under supervision! We had Amalie(3months) visit today, and when she cried for her bottle, he was visibly upset - spent the rest of the afternoon guarding her! Don't suppose he'd be as gentle if he caught a squirrel! I do look forward to the time when I can walk him again.

Kind regards,

Jock.
