He will be living in Northumberland Avenue, very near Trafalgar Square. I think we will go up with him on the train rather than attempt to park round that area. I think a senior railcard would be worth getting now!

I have Northumberland Avenue so that's £12 rent. Also if you're all going by train that 3 x Fenchurch St. You should have gone by car - you might have landed on Free Parking!

As for Community Chest, why do I always think of Page 3. :D

Morning all,

No post last night, went through and did some ratings and woke up in the small hours to find that Joanna had saved the iPad from falling and tucked me in!

Sorry, belated congratulations to the Smiths, that is certainly a good run and long may it continue! Congratulations too, to Martin1 (suggest you start saving for the wedding now!)

Ian, 'Doctor Dick' seems better than having to visit the reverse! As a camera fan, you possibly know that George Eastman patented roll-film for cameras and registered the 'Kodak' patent, yesterday in 1888 - read it in a book yesterday which is a spooky coincidence! Sad to hear Sherry's soon to head back to blighty, how quickly that time has passed.

MickB, you're probably feeling the same about the return to Uni of your two - it certainly doesn't seem long since you posted about their homecoming! Remember when our boy was at school in Bideford and then Uni in London, the term times used to have to be factored in to my business plans! The various routes to and fro are still etched on my memory - luckily both girls stayed local to us then!

DD, I could lay track like that, perhaps I should scrap all dreams of an 00 layout and and switch to 009?

Sorry Debs, to make it up to you, I've found a complete 1993 built 'Rutan Long' for sale in Sweden with 400hrs and VGC for only €26,900! Did you ever build one or indeed learn to fly it?

AndrewC, hope the back gets better as quickly as it went! Jeff(Physicsman) did the self same thing when landscaping the garden in his new house.

Neil, by now I'm sure you've sorted it but there is a positive terminal on a post under the bonnet which could be used to re-charge, which is worth knowing about - went through dozens of those Picassos over the years as demos following their launch in 2000 (they were my carriage of choice for the frequent cross-channel trips due to the wine carrying capacity)! Sounds like you might have reached the new battery stage though?

Have a good POETS day all,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Our Scenic had the same or similar  battery post under the bonnet. When I was showing our then new (well new to us) Scenic I convinced my brother in law that the car didn't have a battery and that there was big spring that wound up as you drove to turn the engine over next time you started.

Hi Jock, nice to see you full of chat!

The battery is OK, starts the engine fine (2.0 HDi), I think there's a problem with the steering wheel contacts.  The wheel was loose (!!) when we got the car back, it was ours previously about 60k miles ago!

Eeek. Loose wheel! Sounds scary! Do you have AA/RAC on the Isle of Man?

Morning all,

I didn't realise DD was also into taking pics of buoys, always nice to find someone with a shared interest  :jester:

The Rhyl miniature railway is also interesting - I suspect it isn't too far from the site of Voryd Park which had a funfair and at one time a steam worked miniature railway.  the latter was succeeded by a miniature tramway being one of the sites used by Claude Lane - who moved on from there to Eastbourne and finally to Seaton although I'm fairly sure it's not teh same trackbed (Lane's line didn't go round a lake but was alongside Wellington Road.

Anyway it's Friday so I understand we might be 'going shopping' and Friday shopping means ..... Waitrose; I wonder which branch it will be today?

Have a  good day folks.

Sorted ages ago, Tony, don't panic!  When Jayne gave us the car back (it was Gary's, Debs sold it to him years ago) she took it to our local friendly garage for a check over, they did it then!  It's a fiddly job as getting the airbag out is a black art.

Morning all.  Since several of you have already beautifully summarised things this morning, I'll just post a few pics from yesterday - both Me and Mum left the sunshine behind, it seems, and had cloud all day though it may probably have helped - my pic of the Duchess of Sunderland as my train passed Heritage Crewe was silhouetted out by a very low, into the lens blast of sun, for instance. [The Duchess was in steam on the evening return, and there was an A4 hidden behind the trees (Bittern?) - many apologies, but this lady fell in love with this A4 even before the Great Gathering, sad innit?].

Anyway, back to sensibility...

Sunrise over the Irish Sea (heavily cropped - more of an artistic impression).

Got it at last!  The Duke of Lancaster.

I usually just get a row of trees landing in the picture as the train speeds past!

I have just done some railway modelling, though it wouldn't get me membership of any of the specialist model railway websites as it was mainly box opening. I really like the Midland 1F and one has arrived. Body came off easily and a 6 pin decoder inserted and programmed, then a trundle up and down the test track, light lubrication and body replaced. It is a very cute loco, I resisted the temptation to make chuff chuff peep peep noises as it moved.

You'll never know how hard it was to resist a 1F at work yesterday.....of course the guys were doing their best to make me buy one....harrumph.  Not many in third rail territory!!  Super little loco though, it has that certain something for sure.

I did look on a certain IOM website first but didn't find it so went to another emporium of railway stuff. I do have a local shop that has good prices but I'm inclined never to go there again after my last visit. I'll get big things online now and drive to Chelmsford for the stuff that isn't RTR.

The 1F appears in enough pictures in the Midlands for me to allow one, as will the Bachmann Coal Tank. I think the proposed DJM King would be nice but I have no evidence that it would have run from Coventry to New St!

Eh up!!!

Nowt much 'appenin 'er abouts...

Daughter now officially a First Officer at Compass - returned yesterday afternoon with an overwhelming amount of HR paperwork that she'd like "help" with, and airside ID (lucky b*u*gger) and a sheaf of manuals and CBT links to follow as she spends the next 30-days initial training....

Weather finally AS FORECAST - who'd have guessed!!?!?! :jester:  :jester:

We went from warm (30) humid (85%) and pretty nasty yesterday, to an overnight 13, expecting 20 MAX for today, humidity down to 48% a light breeze from Canada and mostly cloudy. Apparently we could be seeing highs ONLY in the 12-14 range by late next week!! Autumn is arriving, fast by the looks of it. :locomotive:

Enjoy POETS day, I know I will, early start and busy, then off to sing at a funeral for the retired priest of our church.

Was there 18 years and transformed it into a welcoming place for everyone, much to the dismay of the local archdiocese! Retired in '05 but still a regular until a few weeks ago - place will be packed for sure, and we have many of our guest musicians joining as Fr. George championed and loved music - partly how the 70+ member choir got going...

Ah yes, it only would have uploaded to the website last night, it should be there now.  I am trying hard not to buy one, but the Coal Tank will have a place in the cabinet in the lounge for sure!

Quintessential British tank engine that, Neil. Such beautiful, simple, yet perfect lines....

Anyone following my drivel around RMWeb would notice me sticking my oar in repetitively on the subject of British weather using American data. Well I have to admit that the BBC have been getting New York Metroplex weather spot on recently.

We are getting Ian’s grimly humid, hot and cloudy conditions today followed by potentially severe storms tomorrow - then down to the 70’s and dry air from Sunday.

Best, Pete.

Afternoon all,

Waitrose visit was mainly to Resco after we couldn't find a parking space but we did get one this afternoon so herself did a quick Waitrose shop for meat/chicken while I banked her cheque for her (in her account - I ain't arf good at times, not that the paying-in envelope gave me much choice).

I was wondering if I might receive a parcel today as I'm expecting one from Kent - instead I got a slightly unexpected one from Cornwall.  Interesting coincidence as the one I'm expecting from Kent will, hopefully, contain 2xCCT while the one I received from Cornwall also contained 2xCCT (but different ones, fortunately).

My guess is real, or that's some exceptional shadow adding in photoshop

Yes, having looked at it again and with the video from Tony too I have to say I was wrong initially. Some strange geometry in the support structure threw me.

I still think the grass color in the still photo was altered though (which effected their shadows on the “court”)....

Best, Pete.

A case of parcels vans within parcels then Mike...?

I can't believe it's Friday already, I've only been up a few hours and it'll soon be time to go back into work! Where does the time actually 'go'...? Lots of shunting, top 'n' tailing and probably staff van driving tonight around the Croft / Bardon Hill / Leicester area, puncuated no doubt with copiuos amounts of tea drinking / biscuit related activities. The wheels of commerce must be kept turning somehow, don't you know ;) .

Hmmm, this is most curious - just found an ebay message in the email deleted items wotsit, relating to a Heljan Falcon that somebody in this household has purchased. Looks like herself has sorted an early birthday present for me... very nice!
