Morning All,

That must have given you a bit of a fright Gordon!

It is a little cloudy here this morning - but dry and fine.

Another slightly later start for me. I've got an appointment with the Opthamologist before I head into work.

Have a good day everyone!

WOW Gordon, whhat a chapter of occurrences. I doubt that you were as calm at the times as your report suggests. Was the air blue? However all is well that ends well. How does your car smell now? I love the new car smell! I haven't had it since about 1968 - the last time I bought a new car!

Morning Don....yes it did send my blood pressure through the roof. I was pretty p*ssed off at the time as I could see a big bill on the horizon if the electrics had blown and the car catching fire was the last straw. Of course I can laugh about it now...

It's only four years old now and my mileage is pretty low so hopefully it will see me out.

Morning all. One word for today's weather. Wet. Got caught out yesterday as I walked to work without a jacket and by lunchtime it was persistent drizzle. Thankfully it eased up by the time I went home.

Is Reading that bad? I wouldn't have thought of it as your neck of the woods as it's west of London! The meeting's only 5 minutes from the station so while I won't need the Kevlar jacket, I won't get to see much of Reading either!

Morning all, lots of my employer's raw product around today. It wasn't Gordon's fault, mine I'm afraid as I hacked down the pastures on Sunday. Don't worry though, won't be doing that again for a while....

You'll be OK during daylight hours....biggrin.gif

Watch Road Wars on Sky to get a feel for it.

Only joking, it's no worse than any other large town.

Unless something strange happened last night, we're still west of London and less than 10 miles from Reading. cool.gif

It's Tony that lives the other side....

Actually, it was my fault. I bought a bottle of Pimm's on Saturday...

Oops. My geography must be off. I thought you were both in Essexshire... :pardon_mini:

Thanks for all your comments Gents biggrin.gif

A dull, dark & wet day today and I'm staying at home today as I'm revising for physics. Got a couple of jobs to do first though!

Reading the events of your day sounds quite scary Gordon, of course it is only now that you can laugh it off - good job the outcome was much better than you thought, sounded like it could have got very expensive. One of my sisters is camping in Wales for a few days laugh.gif Think they should've gone a week earlier!

Oh, and can't remember if I told you or not, but my old driving instructor found one that would be willing to take me on so that is now sorted. Just realised I've double booked with something else so I'll have to give him a ring in a few minutes to try and change it!

Morning All, Precipitating persistently in these parts. Seems I am more expensive to run than my car. MOT bill £54.95, opticians £204! So much for the Porsche dealer telling me the steering rack was leaking oil at both ends and needed replacing at a cost of £1200. Garage that did the MOT has given the car a clean sheet with not even an advisory note! Maybe it was the angle of the photo I sent that did it.

I now understand why I don't clean my car too often Gordon and even more so why I don't pay some oik to do it!

Cheers

Dave

Morning all.

My car still seems very clean but it was valeted prior to collecting it. This year's car scent appears to be "banana". When we bought the Clio it smelt like coconut. A former neighbour used to prepare cars for auction that standard valet procedures were not adequate for. At one time he specialised in clearing up cars that someone had committed suicide in but when he lived here he was mainly restoring cars that had been recovered from people who had failed to keep up the payments. I never saw him using a scented candle/flare though.

As the new vehicle is supposed to "see us out" and therefore I have to look after it, Robbie has a Swiss (very expensive) dog box which at least is easier to clean than the whole car.

Essex (the large county to the east of London) is very wet this morning, drizzle/ rain/ drizzle!

Good day all. Another quiet day in the boring boring borough. No work to do, just wait around for feedback on my last set of designs. Got a nasty-gram from the payroll & timekeeping bunch saying I had to reduce my billable hours before the end of the month so I stay within the European regs for the quarter. In other words, I've got a paid week to play trains. Woo hoo.

The first pair of club modules are ready for track and the wiring looms to go in. If the rain holds off I'll get the pair of corner boards cut and assembled today.

The travel arrangements for Thursday have been amended more times than the American Constitution... Now flying Edin-Birmingham and train from Birmingham International to Reading. Nothing's ever simple but at least this cuts out a coach transfer from airport to rail!

AND you get some rail travel. :D

I used to have to make business trips to Jo'burg but the Company would never let me travel by train although it was less than half the cost. Air - 2 hours flying, Train 26 hours.

I wouldn't call a first generation DMU modern! But I know what you mean. From what I've heard main line long distance train travel in the UK is exorbitantly expensive. Cape Town to Jo'burg, 1st class, sole occupancy is the equivalent of about £50.00, economy airfare over £80.00 However, Premier class train is over £200.00, but that is real luxury.

Long distance train travel here is quite expensive if you just turn up at the railway station and buy a ticket but pre-booking for planned trips can be quite reasonable. You only have the stress then of missing the booked train! Once upon a time if Mike had been transferring from Birmingham Airport to the railway station he could have travelled by Maglev.

I've just become a grandad again! 8 months after my son and his wife had Josh, my daughter has just brought Charlie Mark into the world. Not the easiest of births but apparently both doing well. I think it might be time to start getting some O gauge Thomas stuff round the garden, could well be the only layout I'll ever finish....
