I went tweEly today. A really nice little show, but boy was it hot. Had a mooch around the city which I really like, and a look at Queen Adelaide and North junction. Finally spent a few minutes on the station. It was really busy, but apart from the 4 coach FCC trains that come through Stevenage, all the others were 2 or 3 coach dmu's and rammed to capacity with loads of people standing. I wouldn't fancy travelling from Stanstead to Brum like that.

I see that the ghost of "Dave Spart" arose on a thread started by Jack today - since disappeared, very mysterious...

Tony: You need far more “urban grot” there, mate...

Best, Pete.

Another fine day dawned over Shropshire, so more work in the garden beckons.

However, today will be trackbed day.

Not much in the way of heavy toil as my back is still a bit sore, but I can get on my hands and knees(sans slippery concoction) and use a trammel and various other small, light implements to put in the markers for the forthcoming spade work.

The Obergrumpenfuhrer is away today in Nottingham attending a CPD training day:  For once it is work related and nothing to do with Girlguidinguk, which makes a change!

The next tasks will be:

1.  Get son out of bed.

2.  'Suggest' he gets the table saw out and cuts a load of sleeper strip up so's I can start rebuilding the reclaimed track I have in the big box awaiting relaying in the garden.

Normally I would do this myself, but my doctor(ophthalmics) has forbidden me to use machines that vibrate.  In fact, my doctor(s) have forbidden me to do most things at present.............. Well that's what i'm telling the rest of the herd.  In return I do the cooking, although they are getting pretty fed up with endless variations of sausage and beans.

It clouded up a bit yesterday evening and I thought perhaps the sunny spell was over but another cracking start today. I have been offered a suitable area of the garden for the steam trains an now have to create a mini MAson Dixon line so MArion can get on with sorting the garden out. Still too much fencing and clearing up to contemplate preparing a trackbed.

Morning all from a sunny again boring borough. Dunno what happened to me yesterday. Came home from the shopping and felt like moderately microwaved death. Went for a short nap. 3 hours later..... Puttered about for a bit, felt exhausted again so went to lie down. 14 hours later.... Up and feeing a bit stiff but otherwise recharged. Must have needed it or I was fighting something. A quiet day today planned apart from the garden centre which didn't happen yesterday.

Score one for the old timers: http://www.wimp.com/powertractor/

Tony: that scene is missing an RTA, and a house fire complete with all the flashing blue lights and smoke effect.

Enjoy your day.

Morning all. Slept far longer than I'm used to, so I suppose I needed that, too. Rainy and unappealing outside in any case, but the forecast for next week sees us approaching 30 degrees.

Is that what listening to Alexander Nevsky does to you Dom?

Kind regards,

Morning all!

Slightly underwhelmed by Expo EM yesterday.  Parking and the facility was great, but the layouts not really my cup of tea.  Knowing how good BNS is, I was expecting Calcutta Sidings to be similar as they share the same storage yard.  Sadly 50' of dead straight track with little scenic work completed didn't really tick the box in the same way BNS did.  Of course it may be there is much more to do, but somehow dead straight track doesn't really inspire me.  Takes all sorts I'm sure and others probably felt it was a great show.  Can't fault the trade support, but layouts were the real draw for me.

As a neutral the Cup Final was OK.  Family day today with lunch in the garden along with the obligatory glass of wine.  No doubt the world will be put to right.  Complex problems seem so simple after a glass of Sauvignon in the afternoon sun...

Bright and early (for a Sunday)

Breakfast, then off to collect the caravan in preparation for its first (delayed) trip of the season.

Can't see much modelling being done this week.

Would this trip be of archaeological interest John? I wondered if you or any of your regional society friends had heard of Mike Corbishley as I posted the query during that spot of bother we had with the web!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Camping at Newport, then up the valleys and along the coast (and the Gower. Specific projects - get saltmarsh lamb from the Gower, [EDIT can't, it's sold out] visit the Big Pit, visit some Roman stuff, visit Caerphilly Castle, visit Llanthony Priory, various castles, churches, abbeys, priories and ancient sites. And of course any chapels we find for Sandy's PhD.

Know Mike Corbishley only by reputation.

Good Morning all,

Not quite so bright & sunny this morning,  off to son & d-i-l for lunch.

A couple of (not very good) photos that I promised earlier,  the last pair of working boats on the southern part of the Grand Union delivering lime juice to Roses (?) factory in Hemel Hempstead  c1975/6.

For some reason I can remember the camera (my first 35mm)  a  Petri 7S  with a range finder & built in light meter...but it (or me) was never very good.

And a few years earlier me (the hair) playing with trains....

What ever you're up to today, enjoy it the best you can,

Trev.

Today is already turning into a cricket day to remember!

My first game was postponed due to a fixture clash (cup matches), my next has been moved as the students are busy with exams,I organised one and then I was asked to do a senior cup game as someone is poorly (a nasty stomach bug is going around in West Yorkshire)

Back to breakfast..

Morning all.

Quite sunny here at the moment. I'm hoping we can have a quiet day in the garden too. I have slept about 3 hours longer than usual this morning. Not sure why.

I slept a little late as well, probably due to a curry, pastis in the garden, several beers and sitting up watching rubbish TV!

Lovely morning but day holds problems. Amazon want to deliver my new lens, but granddaughter is stopping over tonight and somebody has to go shopping - Julie is out at Merton Abbey Mills all day...

Breakfast from the freezer?

John,(CB), thanks for the response. Sounds like a very interesting trip though shame about the lamb! As a confessed fan of Coast', I've learnt some fascinating things about the grower but only visited briefly. I hadn't picked up on the fact that Sandy is doing a PhD, can I take the opportunity to wish her well with the in-depth study required and above all, hope that it is an enthralling experience : married to a Doctor eh!!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Tell Sandy to prepare herself for all the old jokes: eg: "Could you look at my back, Doctor?"

"Avenue Q" was hugely entertaining. Topics such as being gay, racist, liking Internet porn, etc were tackled in an amusing but thought provoking way. Good to see so many under 40's in a theatre too!

Another sunny day here - hope it is wherever you are.

Morning all

Bright and sunny - and I had a good night's sleep too. That is all the more surprising as I've been suffering a bit with a very grumpy tooth, making eating a trial for the last couple of days. So I carefully milled my usual crunchy breakfast cereal so it was nice and near-powdery, whereupon, at the third mouthful the tooth fell to bits. It was x-rayed and filled earlier this year, so I've hardly neglected it. Getting through the next 24 hrs, before I can even ring the dentist, could be interesting.

Loved Andrew's tractor contest. ISTR the US racing fraternity will tell you there ain't no substitute for cubes (cubic inches displacement) but clearly the weight over the driven wheels on the steamer had more effect. And when did you last see a tractor with no cab and the driver in a crash hat?

Garden matters need attention. Hope the sun shines on you, too.

Morning all,

Bright & sunny and off to Fawley shortly - perhaps I should take a hat?  Dr Station Cat 'departed from' and 'arrived at' Terminal 2 a couple of times yesterday but as they finished teh trial a couple of hours early she and a couple of other guinea pigs decided not to waste the day and their presence so did a real trip - to Dublin (Airport) :O   Shame they didn't get a freebie I thought.

I was wondering about Expo EM if we get back from Fawley in good time but thanks for the warning Gordon - and it is Railex next weekend, now that is good, really good.

Have a good day one & all.

Purely a personal view, Mike.  Judging by the Expo thread others felt differently, so don't be put off by my opinion.  I guess as a lover of large roundies, I was expecting much more.  Can't fault the track laying.  It was straight (dead straight) which is no mean feat over that distance, but Stoke Summit did something similar, so much better.  Even a gentle swell to the track would have worked better, rather than straight, parallel to the edge stuff.

There are some pics here, so you can judge for yourself..

You can pick out the relevant ones.  Little scenic work and straight track.
