On the way there, and having regard to diesels and emission tests, I was determined to ensure it was at operating temperature when we arrived. Giving it a bit of welly going up a modest hill the power suddenly went flat. Engine ran alright but no turbo-oomph. I was sure the emissions test would show this up - but no, all was satisfactory, so the engine management system would seem to be coping. Came away, again booted it up a slope apparently ok, and suddenly the same thing. It's fine - and still legal! - to drive, but the power is lacking. Depressing! Sorry to hear that Ian. Sea Area Thames isn't that bad but the walk back to the car was easier than the walk away from it today. However it is a shame not to know who caused it, because I would like to avoid them in the future. I think childish behaviour is likely to become more anmd more common as parents seem unwilling to show there children that a tantrum goes nowhere so they grow up expecting it to work and throwing tantrums whenever the world doesn't go their way. When I was little if I got a bit fracios or in a paddy I would be sent to my room. Whenever she came to see if I had calmed down I would be playing happily on my own. But as several folk on here have met Dr Station Cat it might be pertinent to note she spent much of her first week of independent existence in the hospital in an incubator - notwithstanding a reasonable birth weight. A relatives Ford Galaxy (it may even have the same engine as your Skoda!) had the same behaviour. The main dealer diagnosed a complete turbo replacement. Ian, I wonder if a bolus dose of a quality injector-detergent (Forté or similar) and a new air filter element might be worth a try before risking the costly attentions of mécanicien voiture. Indeed, diverted from Heysham to Birkenhead due to weather. I presume getting between the rather close-together piers at Heysham was considered too risky in the wind. For those unfamiliar with the 'Ben-my-Chree', she has a lot of windage (meaning, affected by wind due to structure above the waterline, not the efects of curry). I had a problem with a Kangoo in that if I opened the throttle wide the power management would shut down the power very dodgy for overtaking. It was resolved when I traded it it. However A friend said it could have been a blockage in the vacuum tube confusing the engine system. He had a similar problem and that had been the cause. Alice's mother was in an incubator for five days immediately after her birth despite being 10lbs 1oz! And she has turned out (mostly!!) OK! All your supportive hearts again appreciated, folks. Having stood for 3 hours, the Skoda has just been down the road and back to feed the dobbins. Bags of turbo, even with the throttle nailed! I think this discounts turbo pipes. I think the air filter was changed last week, and I can see the fuel filter is new. I will continue to use it for local journeys and see what develops. When we first tried to find one in 2003, there actually wasn't one in Le Mans, pop circa 200k! There may be one now, and there is a VAG dealer in Alencon who has a Skoda showroom and servicing facility. But if the fault persists I'll go back to my local chap - Polos are a bit more common, and the Skoda is a Polo made in the Czech republic, after all, and he sees a few Polos. Mike is right about foreign cars in France. Not many Fords here, for example. Which is why the Skoda has now spent more than 9 years unlocked with the keys in the ignition in my yard. The previous one was taken when he was quite young. The other one was taken last year when we were in the Lake District. He was quite damp (not at all unusual) and running towards me at high speed.
