We expect to arrive at WycRail around 12:30, depending on if I have to find food for little Gruffs first.

I am lost as to how to signal Gruff's Last Great Project with LC Semaphores and ground discs (which I hope to make operational too). Are any signalling experts to whom I can 'offer' my track plan likely to be there?

Having modelled a US line that had no signals in the part I was modelling I thought I had managed to get away without any on the stretch of line that will have scenery (station buildings) on it for my current project as on the prototype the signals were on very tall posts "offstage" to my model. However, more careful observation of photos does show some signals on one platform under a bridge. When I replace the lengths of plain track that are currently where the goods yard will go there will be plenty of opportunity I think for me to learn about signals. I think I am looking forward to it!

Afternoon... been a busy day so far - washing, Morereasons, carpet ordered for railway room and workshop, stand for bathroom bought, new lampshades for staircase lights etc...

Have to see nurse in two weeks time BUT she weighed me with all of my clothes, boots, money , wallet, phone etc - and when I asked how much she takes off for those ---- nothing - so my weight is about 6lbs less than her notes and I am now over 6' 1" tall as I was measured in my shoes - so this compensates for the other news I was given which can only be confirmed in the next few weeks. Its not instantaneously life threatening so I feel better than I have for a long time as at least we seem to know what is wrong and what we can do about it. :-)

Raining here, so grass won't be cut, a bit of quality modelling time pencilled in now for this afternoon.

Enjoy the rest of today people and have a great weekend - me I am off to do 8 hours of indoor cricket at Headingley (Ladies and Mens University games) on Saturday then an Umpires AGM in Donnie Sunday so I may not be on first thing tomorrow...

I believe that elsewhere on the Internet, there is a whole industry dedicated to ladies helping men to make things stiffer.

 Might that be composite structural engineers (like I) specialising in quantative failure-mode prediction; using discretization, finite element analysis and solute partial differential equations in stochastic variation?  :mosking:

Changing tack, just had lunch with an old colleague who in Feb was diagnosed with high blood pressure and really raised cholesterol levels, rather than take pills ( quite often those who make them dont take them) he decided to change his life style, out went salt, reduced the amount of ready made meals to a couple a month, changed his diet and walks vigorously 2 miles a day every day whatever the weather.

He has lost 2 stone, blood pressure is back to normal and cholesterol levels have fallen to mid range, not only only that but he looks 5 years younger, amazing what a sensible diet and exercise can do says I who has a shop bought curry in the fridge for tea :scratchhead:

You ask that with Stationmaster and Beast on here? I doubt you would find better advisers on signalling.

I know the words Debs but put together like that it might as well be gibberish

My belief is that if you eat sensibly for most of the time and exercise regularly you body is ready to cope with a bit of indulgeance. Things like shop bought currys, pastas etc, when in the motorhome we sometimes buy one for one person add extra rice/pasta and veg to make enough for two. Reduces the excessive fat, salt etc to a reasonable level.

One or two friends hereabouts have asked about progress with my little loco-modelling project "Cody" (named in memory of my dear-departed pal).

Progress has been 'steady' and has been rather delayed due to not having sufficient cash to purchase the Slaters driving wheels for it yet (£25 a pair!).......so, I`m working around that problem until finances permit.

Here`s some pictures:

Handrails fitted and the enclosed oil-bath gearbox ready for use:

Veranda, handrails, roof-drips, handbrake and steps:

Engine radiator fan, compressor housing and complex arrangement of handrails to the fwd. heatshield:

Cody approves of progress:

I`m presently laminating the brake blocks and hangers, levers/bellcranks and rodding; the brakes will appear work (courtesy of a hold-off solenoid, a delay-damper and light return-springs); something I`ve always disliked, is loco brake blocks hanging ineffectually away from the wheels and another 'no-no' with me, are loco cabs without drivers......so, with that in mind "I`m looking for mister right" (no, not like that: I mean a 7mm. scale, sideways-seated, driver, reaching (slightly) toward the control console.

The whole thing is getting rather heavy.............well, it was a 67 ton Hunslet!

I bet that is quite interesting - if I could understand it  :scratchhead:   Is it about kn*cker elastic breaking or something?

I know a bit about signalling Gruff and Dr Station Cat and I should be there around that time(ish) - I am best fuelled with tea and Wycrail cakes.  I am easily recognised from my avatar of course.

When I was busy with my old ON30 layout buying Woodland Scenics crew was an expensive option.Tamiya 1/48 soldiers were good donors for a bit of carving. Afrika Korps were the easiest to demilitarize. However they were noticeably small if placed next to UK 7mm persons so they probably wouldn't look right on your Hunslet. White metal figures can be be modified as well. I have spent many a happy hour drilling and fixing limbs and heads with tiny wire pins onto Matthew's Warhammer figures.

Indubitably! All this and much, much more! [so I'm told].

Afternoon.

Great work on 'Cody' Debs :)

A busy few days has seen me sort out getting a sofa delivered (monday), finally I'll have somewhere to sit other than my bed! and sorting replacement car out (mondeo estate), which should be sorted by monday when tax/insurance is all sorted out.

Most of today otherwise has been spent on the phone to the DWP sorting out why theyve not paid me. Always a time consuming and stressy situation!

Now for a cuppa and some gammon sarnies..

Evening all I read Barry's post and thought snap! I need to lose 2 stone at least before March if not tablets and statins will follow...... An exercise bike will be the starting point to try and start me off losing weight plus a change of diet the ready made meals have to follow the chocs out. In the short term I have to double up the ramipril to 5mg a day although my blood pressure has fallen slightly my pulse is still much too fast so that is to be investigated I also apparently qualify for an eye x ray to make sure I am not at risk of blindness and some scan of my heart to make sure it isn't the swinging brick some have suggested.

Having read Shedman's post it looks like getting fitter and thinner really is the answer although mine is blood pressure and diabetes rather than chlosterol.

Pete, I rode it!

27 miles in the dark this evenng, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  First thoughts were; it is light, the saddle is narrow, the suspension quite a lot harder than the L traille version, and it's very game for a 250 single.

Even in the short mileage the suspension has freed up quite a bit, everything seems very tightly made, first time I have felt that on a Jap bike (my Bonneville (modern) did though) and the brakes need a good bedding in.  Of course I haven't been over 50 and you should bear in mind the roads here are like a washboard, very bumpy, but it's a little cracker.  The L might be better for soem purposes.  You might find the saddle too narrow for a long US style ride, but its ideal for me as it gives more angle on my hip.  Handling is very light indeed, found myself turning in too early at first, every corner.  Lighting is good too, quite impressive for a little bike in fact.

So all in all, very happy!

I thought Kelly posted here anyway?  Or is it just I read her posts elsewhere?  If I missed a new starter to ER's, welcome to the department of triviatrics Kelly, it's very supportive in here.

PS -- yes, I have a beard....#sigh#
