Hello.

It must be summer. There are a pair of black headed gulls in summer plumage sitting on the roof of the house over the road. Otherwise it is fairly warm and has just stopped raining but could start again soon.

I'm waiting for an email from Germany this morning before doing more software installation on my wife's new laptop. All the normal software (office2007, anti virus) went on. Windows7 doesn't come with a mail program, no Outlook Express or Windows Mail so Thunderbird 3 came to the rescue. Anyway the final bit of software (the text analysis program) would only install as a demo not the licensed version we have hence the email to Germany.

I don't think I'll be doing any railway modelling today.

Morning All, Gloomy with plenty of oktas this morning. Waiting in for a man to come and collect my car to take it for a service. Much better than driving it 40 miles each way and hanging around for hours.

I suspect what they wear while cleaning the weirs on the Wear will depend largely where the weirs are on the Wear.

Cheers

Dave

Back here I am often told that I have lost my accent and do not speak broadly at all.

Next time I will bring you all a copy of 'Larn yersel Geordie'

Morning all,

Bit late today after a 'false start' (boss hadn't told me there was no need to get up at 5 to deliver printing plates!).

Just been trawling through some 300 emails; made the mistake of spending the weekend in Paris rather than Ally Pally. Great photo; would have recognised at least 4 of you! (Didn't park off road again, Gordon? )

Don't know about you, elDavo, but when I say I'm going to get a hair cut, most people ask me 'which one'! ;)

Even managed to miss out on a brace of pun chains, fawn & foul. Hey ho! :(

Conclusion: 2 nights wasted in Paris; should have stayed at home!!

Having met Geordie BoD on Saturday, I want to know how come you write in understandable English yet speak another language all together?......biggrin.gif

He's bilingual!

Afternoon all

Seeing that photo does my heart good, knowing that I am not the only one in my age group in here in the ER posters. Somehow, though mother nature has let me keep my hair, and it's mainly all still my own colour. Looking at all the revellers, I'd fit right in - except that I am still not being allowed to consume alcohol - my last drink was last June due to the effects of various potions that I've got to take.

Many oktas here today, and all leaking - thankfully leaking water still, though they are still not sure what we will get the rest of the week - in one breath it's rain, in the next it's snow, and then it's sleet - suffice to say it will be some sort of wet stuff.

Don - have a nice break - don't forget to send us all a postcard.

Yes indeed - most sad about the bombings on the Moscow underground - it does now seem that this type or terrorism is becoming a worldwide phenomenon - it's seems no time since we were debating the same type of attacks in London on here and lamenting the state of the world.

(usual question just fired at me - are you on your break) - I'm sat here with a pie, a cup of tea and a sandwich, so it might appear logical that I'm on my lunch!

Regards to all

Stewart

When my wife saw the photo she was tactful (she is being nice while I'm restoring all her lost work on the new pc) enough to only criticise my posture not that I should lose weight!

Actually the new PC is up and running. Just one bit of software to get going. The German software company will allow the software to be reinstalled on the new machine but we have to fax them a document stating the old version has been deleted etc. I don't have a fax machine or a computer with a modem pretending to be a fax machine. If they don't accept the pdf I can send it from my sister-in-laws house at the weekend.

The Moscow underground has some amazing stations, like palaces - gilt work, chandeliers... I don't think Lubyanka is one of those, but the system as a whole is worth a visit!

Indeed - I would quite like to check it out myself some day.

Send the fax from your email account!

Think it uses Linux's Hylafax software!

'ere ... less of that if you please...... it took me long enough to learn bipedalism.

Hope you haven't started on bipolarism, then!

BTW could you describe two gnomes thinking about starting a family as the "Binomial Theorem"?

Or the result as the 'Binomial Threeothem'?

or, in keeping with the original, what about the "Binomial Expansion"?

that just leaves additional siblings to form the "Binomial Series"!

Unfortunately I'm supposed to fax back the form (signed) that they sent me as a pdf! They still haven't replied to the email I sent asking if the signed and scanned pdf I returned was adequate. Apparently even in the UK there are some things you can fax (some legal things apparently) but can't email, and I thought we were in the century of the fruitbat but I can't see why signing and faxing makes it more legitimate than signing and pdfing!

Sorry, Tony, but you're out of date. We're in the century of the anchovy now. Discworld

An ex-staff member donated about 30 Disc World novels to the office library. I had heard of Terry Paratchet but never read any of them. I am now working through them, but as far as I have got we are still in the century of the fruitbat.

Not taking any of them with me on holiday but went to a 2nd hand book shop on Saturday ad came back with a variety of thick books to take with me.

Last day on here for two whole weeks! :D

Some older fax machines used thermal paper on which the image deteriorates - these could not be used as legal documents.

I'm guessing that by asking for a paper copy of your document, they are unable to edit it electronically (even PDFs can be edited!) and, therefore, can be guaranteed to be your document and not theirs.

The TPC system actually sends your email to their ordinary fax machine, complete with header page and so on, and would fit the bill here!

All you need do is address the email to

remote-printer.
recipient_name
@
fax_number
.iddd.tpc.int

substituting 'recipient_name' and 'fax_number' appropriately by following the instructions on the TPC site!

Morning All,

It is a bit gloomy here this morning. We had a torrential rain storm last night, I got woken up by the rain and wind at around 02:00 (I think) but there wasn't an electrical storm.

I went for a bike ride last night, which was quite nice. The perfect way to destress after a rather hectic day in the office.

Have a great holiday Don, and a good day everyone :icon_wave:
