It looks a bit like the creature from the Alien films.

Googling Hampshire, ash, and pupae seems to suggest the Ash Pug moth but photos of pupae to compare seem elusive. DD might give it a home in his insect house?

I wondered if it was the Connecticut emerald ash borer, but for various reasons (mainly flight endurance) they are quite rare in the Surrey / Hants border country!

I'm thinking that it might be a new species, hitherto un-named. We can remedy that. Hereby it shall be known as the "Early Rhizorium Moth."

Come to think of it one of my neighbours had an African fish named after her by an amorous explorer with piscatorial tendencies; I Googled it but came up a blank with the search term, "Hilda". This may explain why I didn't do so well at Zoology A level!

I'm not on familiar enough terms to identify that grub.

Hoorah! Credit has arrived in Current Account which saves me cooking the books.

Silly really but I like to have financial things on a (computer) spreadsheet so that I can foresee emergencies.

Often sitting back and waiting would be less stressful.

A new car battery (£85) and tyres (£416) made a couple of holes in the plans this month.

I just spent some time looking at photos on Matthew's Facebook page. We aren't "friends" so I can only see his public postings. One is of the elusive North American meat pie (as mentioned by Pete occasionally!)

That will be the sulphuric acid making the holes ...

and fortunate that you only needed a couple of tyres.

Rather late on today. Had to take the dogs early as Marion had an appointment with the eye specialist first thing.

It was raining when I went out with the dogs and hasn't stopped yet occcasionally changing from heavy rain to downpour.

One of the joys of cricket is that its a game played by three teams of one which is the weather and you never know which side the weather will help. Perhaps England didn't have the confidence to win on the day so decided to bat on and up their averages a little. Does look like the wrong call though.

Donkeys on our beaches are more dangerous than those Continental Equidae: as any British Jackass may quickly become aroused by a pair of Mules and a bare Ass.

You've personally experienced this, Debs?

Best, Pete.

Afternoon all!

Been fairly sunny thus far, but another rain front with possible t-storms has been predicted to arrive tonight and possibly stay for the next several days at least. Also, I'm feeling like I caught a bit of a sniffle, though that might also be allergy related...

It's chucking it down here.

The thought of Debs in the condition to which Pete alludes has steamed up the screen.

Mostly good news here today compared to recent events so I'm in a better mood.

Not ruined by making enquiries about a Course (for someone else) and ending up advising the Government employee to go on a course to learn about courteous interaction with other people.

I have a week off so I have caught my mandatory cold.

It's all starting to get just a bit monotonous.

At least it is an excuse to put off report writing.

I had a real attack of nostalgia on Sunday. We travelled by the ECML from London to Edinburgh, then on to Glasgow. (There were engineering works on the WCML, with buses from Preston to Oxenholme, so we chose to go by the ECML). It was actually the first time I'd travelled the whole way from London to Edinburgh, but I've done the route in parts many times. I realised that the last time I had travelled each part of the line had been behind Deltics! In the first coach, I missed the Napier 'howl', but not the blue atmosphere through the tunnels out of King's Cross.

Even better was to follow. Engineering works on the ex-NBR route from Waverley to Queen Street meant we were diverted onto the ex-CR line from Falkirk (and over the Cowlairs curve in to Queen Street). The last time I travelled that line was behind an A4, less than a month before the last of the class was withdrawn in the autumn of 1966.

Great memories, but they sure make me feel old!

Methinks you need to get back to those accounts.

It does look as if the England cricketers seaweed was better at judging the weather than many of us!

Yes! I used to enjoy playing at Silly Point.  I would point out to the batsman dew drops forming on the end of his nose etc.

Best, Pete.

Evening All

Been a tad wet here today, and I like Tuesday Mondays even less than Monday Mondays if you get my meaning.

Not a lot to report here, except for a welcome back to the fold to Ian - hope you enjoyed your time in the UK (Did the Dog and Bull get a look in?).  It does appear that you did well on meeting up with lots of your up til now virtual friends.

Must say that the comments about cricket just go over my head, and I probably will never be forgiven for referring to it as "throw, hit and catch" to a onetime colleague, who then told me he used to play - when I asked who for (expecting a village or town side) he answered "Somerset" - and from that day on I was always a bit persona non grata with him.

Seems that the short straw is drawn tonight, and I've got to make my own tea, cos I didn't want what was on offer.

Regards to All

Stewart

Odd moments (take that how you wish) see me in the garage working on my 00 gauge layout.

A couple of photos showing some recent progress on the station building, platform and forecourt...

The forecourt will probably have an old-fashioned garage added, with a cattle pen on the bay platform siding. The station building is painted (hopefully) in GWR colours, and the general idea is that both Southern and GWR trains can pass by.

The village scene will see a smaller village pub, more cottages and a church. Next week's birthday apparently (according to my blabber mouth son) may see the Dapol church kit arrive. :)

All the best, Andy

Morning All,

Once again, it is chucking it down here.  The ground is so waterlogged at the moment, that there are reports on the radio of trees falling down because they are loosing their grip on the earth.

Thanks for the layout photos Andy - I love the village scene with the junction and road sign.  Very atmospheric!

Have a good day everyone...
