Penlan
Police there in 3 minutes... Once 1730 hours is past in Penzance, the Police Station's closed and all our Police activity comes from Camborne, I think the record to my village so far is 20mins. That was for a Fire Engine on a Practice run and couldn't get through some parked cars (on double yellow lines - this is west Cornwall), a bus stuck at the same point last week was there 1.5 hours before the police arrived, and took another half hour to get the cars removed. We did have a Police car a couple of months ago attending an emergency at about 20.00 hours and they had a photocopied map and stopped me and the dog to ask where the place on the map was (true, honestly), they were about a mile from where they should have been attending a domestic (serious as the following weeks papers revealed), and not even on the right road. Anyway glad your system provided the protection you needed, just lets hope the Magistrates see sense and give a proper reward to him for his actions, which from the sound of it, is just one in a long chain of misdemeanors. Trains4U
Learned this morning that the magistrates sentenced him to 3 months. On top of the 4 month suspended sentence he was already on, which he now has to serve.. Quick justice! Though we won't get any form of compensation. but he has been told he must serve nearly all of his sentence before any possibility of parole.

Trains4U
To be honest, the guy is lucky to still be in one piece. those who know the layout of my place know that there is a metal staircase up to the mezzanine at the back of the showroom. In one of his escape attempts, he had tried to rip away the roof to get through a sealed corrugated skylight. In this attempt, he had climbed on the metal bannister, which he had bent and weakened at the joints under the weight and added pressures caused by his attack on the roof. If this had given way, or he had slipped off the 2" wide aluminium, he would have fallen 10' onto the metal steps below. broken legs at least - and without the opportunity to present himself at the door, the dog would have given him a shake too. Also, the alarm engineer said he was very lucky as when he attacked the alarm, he exposed the wires to the mains transformer. He (the intruder) was very close to being fried! and when the shelving fell over in the stock room, he must have fallen backwards onto the main shelves. They ae strong, but he is lucky not to have had a few hundred kilos of Bachmann locos and carriages collapse on him. well, at least he's been put away for a while. and he'll find the internal security arrangements different once more should he attempt another entry. Our alarm engineer has a legal solution that would practically make your ears bleed
RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted November 3, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2009 Our alarm engineer has a legal solution that would practically make your ears bleed Does it start all the DCC sound locos at the same time? Andi

RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted November 3, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2009 Our alarm engineer has a legal solution that would practically make your ears bleed Similar in approach to what I did with my old Mk3 Escort many many years ago - I got a 12V fire alarm sounder and put it directly behind the central speaker grille in the dash (remember those days when a mono radio was considered luxury ) Got a right "telling off" from my mum when she borrowed my car and forgot about the alarm

In most of Canada he would have had 9 months minimum as a first offence and 2 years less 1 day if he had previous. (2 less a day is the distinction between a federal prison and a local remand centre)
RMweb Premium polybear Posted November 3, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2009 Ask the Police on the Q.T. for a Judge who's into model railways, and a member of RMWeb. And after the court case post the scumbag's name & address on here...... Brian

Lady_Ava_Hay
I strongly suspect that this is the same guy as last time. He won't be back again. There will be easier fish to fry. Having said that, he only came back this time as he made a bit of a killing last time. If you can get lilly law to find out a) whether he did the first one B)where all that stock went. They get another crime solved and another fence to watch. I must say that the similarities in both unwarranted damage and useless mindless grabbing of stock is a bit deja vu. Western Stalwart
Sorry to hear about the break-in Gareth but pleased to hear that he got his just desserts. On alighter note, if he can break in but not get out again, why not turn the doors round so the s*ds can't get in in the first place That or install a Ho-Ho which is like a Ha-Ha only deeper. With thanks to Terry Pratchett for that one. Oh and his character Foul old Ron for my signature quote. I will get to visit your shop one day.

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted November 10, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2009 on the old, slow diesel shunter ..... You mean the one with very wide wheel treads?! Glad that the police and you had a 'result' this time, Gareth - and well done on you for installing the extra precautions so quickly after the previous incident. noiseboy72
Glad you got some justice. The git that broke into our house and also nicked the car got sent to the crown court and ended up with 2 1/2 years. (No damage done and nearly all property and car returned intact) I think the fact that the court learnt that there had been a 10% drop in house break-ins in the town since he had been on remand had something to do with the sentance. That and the fact that he needed at least a 2 year stretch to get on a drug re-hab program. I take it you are putting in a 130DB sounder ? Try a couple of big strobe lights as well. Gel up 1 in blue and the other in red. You will find any intruder curled up on the floor gibbering insanely....

oldknotty
Sorry to hear about the latest a****le that tried to rob you mate . I would be quite willing to send you a couple of bear traps to set on the floor of a night , that way he would definitely not be going anywhere very quickly . It would also ruin his jogging ability to boot !! Martin

RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted August 18, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 18, 2010 Sadly those man trap type devices have been illegal in the UK since at least the 1950's. That is not to say that there are quite a few still to be found in the garden sheds and allotments of more remote villages up and down the land.
