If Ivor is "the locomotive" of the M&L RTC, what happened when he needed a heavy overhaul?

Pick one of the following:

1. They had a massive works on standby and could turn him out with a replacement boiler overnight.

2. They sent him off through the Severn Tunnel to Swindon Works and he was back the next morning.

3. They used horses.

4. They borrowed Ivona The Engine from the next valley along.

5. Ivor was made from mithril and dragons' teeth so nothing ever wore out.

6. They used rail replacement buses.

They "managed" the same way as the Talyllyn did after their No.1 wore out. I suspect the Talyllyn was at least part of the inspiration for Ivor, too.

I'm not sure how long it took, but so long as Grumbly gasworks had enough coal and Mrs Porty hadn't bought a new hat, I am sure the railway could have survived for a little while without running any trains.

They may have cancel choir practice though!

Ha ha, Ivor also clearly had a spare wheel set. 6 or 8 spoke depending on the episode!!

On a slightly more serious note... if you make a model railway just for Ivor... what do you do when the model breaks down?? ;-)

6 wheels for days they needed to run faster, 8 wheel for when weather is more dodgy and they need more adhesion 🤣

  • Stop playing trains and have a brew?
  • Start scratchbuilding a model of Juggernaut?
  • Commence a research and development programme to eventually breed a 1/76 scale donkey?
  • Or just get out your other model of Ivor that you repainted in monochrome livery for that retro feel?

When Ivor was out of commission, and they had absolutely nothing else to hand, I expect they borrowed small locos from the GWR? Or was it the LMS in that region?
