I'm more interested in why rather than bothered - good that it has a prefitted speaker tho Sonic might be too small for that. I see the difference between a big reduction or not seems to often depend on whether fitting was done in China or once they arrived in the UK. Dapol seem to be the latter with no great overall reduction while Accurascale seems to be in China working with ESU with a lot of DCC clout thrown in. Sonic is not as big as either of those. I'm glad they went 21 pin as I can either reuse/re-blow an existing chip, buy another chip from one of the specialised DCC suppliers or use HM7000 chip (if they ever did a Brighton loco sound). On sounds we have: Terriers (bark too typical for a A1/A1X to be close) E4 (chuff might be out but other features should work) H2 (probably the closest) Edited August 2 by JSpencer 2

phil gollin
. Excellent . . . . Wonderful . . . . . . MARVELLOUS !!! Nice to see such an iconic Brighton loco is going to be produced. Happy to see another one off my "wants list". . 5

Rodney I have to agree with that. Quick search of the class and that chimney is awfully tiny. Haven't found one image of a K class having that small of a chimney
RMweb Premium Downer Posted August 2 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2 Bit disappointed - Sonic did such a great job on the A5 that I was hoping their next 00 loco would be a Stanier or Fowler 2-6-2T. But the K is certainly a lovely engine, and surely one must one have filled in for a broken Q or C2X on a Norwood Junction to Temple Mills transfer freight… 1 1
RMweb Gold Kaput Posted August 2 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 2 On the sound fitted front, remember most of the recent Rails exclusives (like the A5 and the Heljan Gas Turbines) didn't have a sound option initially and it was added later. 2
AlfaZagato
Does seem like the shops like to load their own sound chips. Maybe we'll see a Rails chipset for the loco?
GreenGiraffe22
Yaaaaas! Although, this trend of releasing loads of livery variants at once is getting spenny 😅

A little worrying that all the Southern liveried locos are shown with a graphic below the unpainted model suggesting Maunsell lettering : 2337, 2346 & 2353 should have early-style Bulleid 'gilt' lettering and 2352 late-style 'sunshine' - I trust the graphics are just intended to show the base colour. RMweb Premium Gordieb01 Posted August 2 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2 Congratulations to Sonic for choosing to produce a K in RTR. However, in my opinion it reflects poorly on Hornby and Bachmann and possibly Dapol that they have ignored this lovely and important Southern Region loco for so long. I'll be ordering one eventually although my main focus is on LMS and GWR. 1

Yes that is what I assumed as well. While there are some issues with the planned liveries, I don't believe they would make the mistake of putting the same lettering on all SR versions. Jack P
Thrilled with this announcement - I do hope the Chimney sees a revision though, It looks like one made for a 2mm K! Worst case a home replacement would be in order.

Synch
Very interested but will need to see livery samples before I put in an order; after the LNER liveries of the A5 I'm rather worried for these to be correct. The LBSCR Black is an odd description; as far as I knew no K was ever painted plain black, should be lined in red? Or are they aiming for one of the examples with plain yellow lettering? Bit of a peculiar choice if so. Also odd not seeing the prototype in it's Photo Grey livery, would have thought that would be a popular option to have. RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted August 3 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3 Excellent news! Sonic seems to be a competent manufacturer who can look after the technical side of design and manufacture perfectly well, if they are helped with right research this should be a most splendid release.
RMweb Premium Midland Mole Posted August 3 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3 I sent an email to Sonic yesterday listing the various livery/numbering issues and got back a positive response, so fingers crossed those are sorted for the livery artwork stage. This is why it's always important to go direct with constructive feedback, rather than just mentioning it on a forum and hoping someone from the company sees it 🙂 3 1 1

Rails describes the loco as Era 3, which suggests Southern black (lined or unlined). In addition, it is priced the same as plain black liveries. If, on the other hand, it is Marsh lined umber, I’d expect something akin to the umber liveries on the Bluebell page devoted to Birch Grove or Bachmann’s E4. 32 minutes ago, Fair Oak Junction said: I sent an email to Sonic yesterday listing the various livery/numbering issues and got back a positive response, so fingers crossed those are sorted for the livery artwork stage. I hope it turns out to be lined umber; it would make sense.
