Heljan 2-4-2 Baldwin loco

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am thinking of buying one of the above, and would like to know if it will negotiate 9" curves, as the Bachmann Baldwin does.

Thanks in anticipation.

Don't have one myself, but I doubt it will go round 9" curves.

Someone over on NGRM Online posted this in July 2021 when they first came out:

"The instructions recommend 305mm minimum radius, but suggest larger is better."

Like I say, I have not seen the instructions and I don't have one (yet), but I think you are looking at minimum 12" radius curves.

I’ve personally run these round Kato 315mm radius track without the slightest problem, which is as close as I can get to answering your question.

As that spans out to just over twelve and a half inches radius, I doubt that it could get down to 9 inches to be honest. Short radii over point work and the like should be fine, but sustained curvature probably isn’t going to fly

Thanks for the replies, chaps.

I have a 4' x 2' layout so need 9"ish rads to make for an interesting layout. My points are 12" rad electrofrog, and the track is flexi track.

I hoped that as a 2-4-2 Baldwin,it would be the same as the Bachmann Baldwin, but maybe the pivot lengths on the pony trucks are different.

Cheers, David
