RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted June 22 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22 Hi Guys, today we are at the Welshpool and Llanfair Railway for the Beer Festival. We are staying just outside of Welshpool at a site we have stayed at several times before as Lez’s sister has a caravan there. Called Severn Caravan Park. A grass pitch at a very reasonable £20 a night with electric hook up. Right next to the river plus they have pond for fishing too. Just down the road is the Mid Wales Airfield which has a cafe doing breakfast’s which I can recommend. Saved me cooking this morning. 😉 So unto the railway. Two engines in steam today Zillertal Bahn No 2 and No 822 “The Earl”. Weather has been very nice. We caught the first train out of Welshpool behind Zillertal.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted June 22 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22 Our train was a mixture of Austrian stock with one GWR carriage. As ever we chose to be behind the engine. A few views of the other stock and Diesels at Llanfair.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted June 22 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22 Back to Welshpool with a stop to allow 822 to pass us. Video to follow later.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted June 22 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22 Back in at Welshpool the beer festival was well underway. Nice free plastic glass included in the price. Several bands on too. All located in the engine shed.

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted June 22 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22 This crossing requires the Fireman to get off the warm any traffic with a red flag before the train precedes.

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted June 23 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23 No I didn’t see it. The other sheds were closed so I photographed everything which was outside. Today we walked around the town following the original route of the track. It is Carnival day today.

One of the conditions of hire is that it should be kept inside so it is usually in the shed at Tanllan, just outside Llanfair station. It should be appearing on passenger services at some stage but we still need to get sufficient footplate crews trained up on it. Adrian: Glad you enjoyed your visit and some nice photos/videos there. Tom Burnham
Thank you for the report. Llanfair station has certainly changed since my first visit, about 60 years ago -
