Would be interesting to know who bought the 373s when they were being produced ? ...... in real life they ran alongside CEPs & VEPs on the 'National Network' - but I don't think they were available from the trade back then ! ............................. and a layout of the CTRL with Eurostars and Javelins alone wouldn't be much fun.

I thought GNER ran some too. The White Rose between London King's Cross and Leeds, or am I getting confused with a similar looking locomotive and stock?

Thinking of upcoming rail anniversaries...

Centenaries in 2025 anyone? What with Heljan having announced the LNER's Garratt already, and the second of the LNER's 2-8-2 classes getting a good reception, it's got to be the Gresley P1.

Special presentation edition with 100 of the new UK manufactured mineral wagons liveried for authentic representation of the New Engl;and to Ferme Park coal traffic.

I'm more thinking of bicentenaries. Not for this announcement though.

Pretty sure a set of S&DR coaches to go with Locomotion must be on the horizon. I reckon it would be a bit pointless making chaldrons though.

2025 other railway related anniversaries. It is highly unlikely that Hornby will do anything to mark The 80th anniversary of Thomas the Tank Engine 80 years of the "The Railway Series" in 2025, and 40th Anniversary of the television series adaptation of "Thomas and Friends" considering they don't have the licence with HIT Entertainment/Britt Allcroft.

Also without turning this in to a wish list there were many steam/ diesel electric locomotives DMUs EMUs etc introduced and special anniversaries in the years of 1945, 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005 and 2015 So there is so much that could and possibly will be inevitable done in 2025! I'm sure there will be many amazing things to come next year!

Not many special events happened in any of those years though. Maybe apart from the A4s appearing in 1935, and I would expect anything year related would be in the main 2025 announcement.

2015 was especially exciting.  I've got pants older than that!

Although you could probably say the same about 1995.....

From what was said on Jenny Kirk’s Monday Club, nothing was given away, but I got the feeling it’s a series of models .

Maybe  a revamp of Railroad range . What did they refer to in their financials , a new “capsule” range .  Maybe that just means new tank wagons with Paracetomol, Ibruprofen,Viagra insignia!  “capsule range”sounding like a bit of corporate bull****  that I am so glad I’ve retired from !

Now, while I'm as interested as anyone else here about the announcement to take place tomorrow, perhaps we're all overthinking things.

This is all blue sky and out of the box thinking, but going on their last two emails, particularly the ostensiably fathers day "do you remember your Dad's first model locomotive?" one and of course the announcements one, perhaps seeing Hornby have embraced their HD diecast heritage, they are going to step back for a retro approach to the starter set for the modern age.

I'm suggesting that we will see an eco-friendly, near zero-carbon footprint CLOCKWORK trainset, either containing a circle of the track already produced for the Playtrains series or as a train pack.  The rather overlarge B4 loco we saw on the TV series would be an ideal candidate for the loco as it would conceal a simple clockwork mechanism and doesn't duplicate any current Railroad bodies, and the usual suspects of a van, an open truck and a brakevan (with perhaps the old 4 wheel coach) with colourful fantasy liveries would complete the contents.  Positioned for the Christmas market it would be ideal as it would require no batteries or power controller to bring to life, the lack of batteries would enhance its eco credentials too!

Of course, I might be entirely wrong...

I'd like to see a TT:120 trainpack consisting of a green EE/08 shunter, several wagons and a brakevan.

The implication (to me) would be a self-contained range:  possibly deliberately incompatible with anything else?

There must be heaps of us here that feel likewise. Although the Bingo format game at major Mcomms was rather entertaining to listen out for, usually the win claimed by someone applauding loudly, quickly joined by all the other players; typically baffling the speaker who wasn't expecting any (positive) reaction to the latest in optimally guided multifacetted black sky orientation.

Risky, think of all the claims for RWI.😅

How do I connect my phone/tablet to it?

It's USELESS!!!

Its all part of showing that fun can be had without electronics or social media (sic). 🙂

Perhaps Hornby will announce a new range of diesel and electric locos that will produced by other manufacturers?

Many a true word said in jest…

tbh I think Hornbys modern image future is probably best as out sourcing runs of other suppliers models, sold in a Hornby box.

saves on tooling costs, extends Hornbys brand into an area where they have been beaten… detailed modern image.

Some of KR Models box of curiosities and monsters wouldnt look out of place in a Hornby box either, maybe branded as “The Greatest Showman range of limited edition meddlies of odd balls and could have beens”

My mistake...none left to do...

Plenty still to do.

I would be quite happy for Hornby to announce every single class of locomotive from Class 01 to 92, plus all the DMUs and EMUs. If only to stop the constant moaning about duplication!

Hornby is the company I thought best placed to do Electrostar.

They could offer a railroad version, with “156/153” motor, shy of electrics and basic NEMcouplings… then using the same tooling fit in a decent motor, with all bells and whistles.

This would give  a 20 year history to start with, and another 20 year cherry to bite at.

Hornby is really one of the few companies that still have some element of long term thinking in their range.

Alas, I could not imagine them with that level of foresight, commitment, research and investment any more… ive seen little of that recently… certainly the 755 I consider a strange choice.

Tomorrow I honestly have no idea what to expect, but my bar is set at the same low level I have of both the England team, and state of our politics, so I have plenty of scope to be surprised, and not much loss in dissapointment.

Would Hornby perhaps consider a bit of finessing of some of their diesel and electric models? Nothing requiring major re-tooling; for example - the Class 60 lighting contacts were horrible and the sprung coupling cams not so great. The upgraded PCB connector for the lighting was a positive step and maybe stick in a speaker in the PCB.

The 87 pantograph - in fact somewhere to put a speaker in the chassis - considering their Class 87 TXS profile is due to be released.

The list of requests is well known ... but will they listen?

Their research is poor, I informed them that the, yet to be released, GWR and BR green 88DS's were preservation liveries only; they asked for a source so I directed them to photos freely available on Flickr; the "GWR" one also not having an open cab as their image shows.

Every diesel electric locomotive from classes 01 to 92! Plus all the DMUs and EMUs.

That would take decades wouldn't it?

They could go at the furthest either ends then work their way at random classes to the middle eg 01 and 92, then 25 and 35 hymek then 02 and 52 Western then 29 and 58 etc....

Earlier, I suggested a TT:120 train pack containing a green 08, some wagons and a brakevan. this could also be delivered as an "Inglenook" trainset, containing points, track and an instruction booklet about inglenook layouts and how they work.

Of course, this might be advanced thinking for Hornby, who can't move beyond an oval with a siding.

With a bit of sideways thinking, they could also look at separate complete track packs, like the Inglenook or a ready to go Minories*, for example. Neither would take up excessive space in TT:120 and would help get new entrants to the hobby away from the pernicious oval.

* With a reprint of the CJ Freezer article in RM from April '57 and with FULL instructions on how to emulate it using the track provided.

You know what I reckon it will be - A massive disappointment for most people, that's what.

All these ideas bounding around which began with a list of wild but amusing jokey list of items, then there was the unusual early showing of the Bachmann 08 which led to speculation it's an OO 08 from Hornby though I wonder if a third team is also in play on that one.  Then we've gone around the list of TT-120 ideas and new ranges.

Maybe this is Hornby's issue - we just don't know what to expect from them - scale, range, quality or livery.

Anyway, we'll know this time tomorrow.
