RMweb Gold 30851 Posted July 24 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24 On the topic of the holiday trains I once saw a reference that they were run because the Government told them to run them as part of Common Carrier obligations. The Government set the number of services (hence the large number of coaches needed just for these) as was the ticket price and they had to be run even if they made a loss. In the Beeching era the Common Carrier idea disappeared and most of these trains quickly removed. Has anyone more information on if this was true?
