I'll have a BPlease Bob.

Rapido Trains UK are to produce the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 ‘Caledonia’ Fireless locomotive and we are offering an exclusive model for World of Railways / BRM / RMweb in the attractive and useful BP livery carried by works number 2238, delivered in February 1948 to Distillers Co Ltd. for their British Resin Products plant in Barry, South Wales. BP acquired Distillers in 1967 with the livery of the locomotive changing to that which we see in Rapido’s renders of our forthcoming model with BP’s well-known shield logo used from 1961-1989.

The locomotive is therefore liveried for the period from 1967 to its withdrawal when the plant closed in 1986.  The fireless locomotive is seen performing here.

We have chosen a livery which would be appropriate for modellers to use in private sidings; maybe an oil terminal or chemical plant? Another consideration in choosing this livery would be the easy removal of the BP logo giving an ideal base to work from on for your own colour scheme.

The model features a diecast and injected moulded construction evident from the EP samples below.

Our model includes the angled reservoir supports and early-style buffer guides with a reducing valve.

Due to size constraints the model will have an E24 decoder socket which is an emerging standard for small models.

The product run is strictly limited and DC/analogue versions can be ordered at a price of £139.95 and £249.95 for the sound-fitted version with a small deposit.

Hi Andy,

How easy is "easy removal" of the logo please.

Is there a known method with Rapido printing?

Love the industrial green and red buffer combination.

Thanks very much.

Obviously I can't say on this one but previous work with a cotton bud and IPA worked on a 15xx.

Hmm, maybe a London Rubber Company livery to come from Rapido?

You'll need a lot of 50p pieces for the vending machine (showing my age now).

I can't remember when I was last asked that.  That goes back to before supermarkets and the days you had to ask the young lady behind the chemist's counter.  Does the barber still sell them?

does that make Rapido the House of Fun?

There's certainly madness there. He's just gone home though. 😁

Back on topic (must we?) I'm pleased to see this prototype available as in my eyes it was an obvious omission from the original line-up, and as you say it offers a good basis for several others with the BP logo removed and alternative names/logos added. I hope this is a success for Rapido - the EP's look great. Me, I'm still waiting for their first venture into 7mm scale...

Slightly confused by this part. The E24 socket and decoders are about the same size as Next18 (Quick look at ESU website the E24 Lokpilots are bigger than N18 but the Loksounds are the other way round) and the fireless loco's don't need all the extra function outputs available on them.

Not the end of the world I suppose but at the current time, availablity of E24 decoders is somewhat rubbish.

A few other manufacturers are heading the same way so hopefully availability will improve.
