Popular Post Tom F
Finishing touches to the engine shed. Using colour period reference shots of Penrhydd Bach and Dyffryn engine sheds to give me an idea of what to work with. 20 5

Popular Post Tom F
Finishing touches. Managed to finish the doors and workbench, and see what they look like together. What was supposed to take me a month or so has taken around two weeks! It’s now a case of waiting for the Bachmann NG7 Quarry Hunslets. I also need to order the name plates for the two examples I’m going to model. Edited May 28 by Tom F 22 9
Popular Post Tom F
Finally, to round off the building work, a couple of shots outside including the weighbridge office. Things will quieten down now, as I await the release of the Bachmann Quarry Hunslets and rolling stock. I’ve a few things to begin thinking about, exact track plan (although I have a rough one) along with a coupling system which I’d like to be prototypical. The layout itself will be constructed in August down at Dan Evason’s Tunnel Lane Model Railways. 26
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 29 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 29 Tom, you've nailed that 'Dinorwic look' exactly right! Really high quality modelling. 1 3

Thanks Tim, that means a lot. This project is really doing me the world of good. I'm glad I've brought the Skarloey modelling to a close, it was starting to have detrimental effect on my mental health.

RMweb Premium cornelius Posted May 30 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30 Of the top of my head I think the ones in the sets with works plates are 2.9mm or 5" ish to scale. 1

I might hang on until the Bachmann models coming out so I can compare. I was going to drop you a message, would you be able to do plates design to match HOLY WAR’s plates. The Craig plates are close but not quite close enough.
RMweb Premium DLT Posted June 1 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1 I'm sure LRS will KNOW what the correct height is!
micked
I don't know how noticeable it would be, but it might be worth noting that the LRS example is a different typeface (Gill Sans) to the one on the prototype.

Tom F
With the help of @Quarryscapes and another friend, we are doing our own hunslet plates for my locos tracing the original plates. I've also managed to acquire some Mercian etches to make into slab and rubbish wagons. My friend Paul Willis has kindly agreed to build them for me. I can't wait to start weathering them with real slate loads too. I've also heard the Quarry Hunslets are dropping in the next 30 day! Exciting times!
Tom F
Back from an interesting day involving Narrow Gauge. First stop was Statfold to see how our engine 'Sir Tom' is getting on while he's away from Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum where I fire. I also wanted to measure up the name and worksplates on Michael and King of the Scarlets, two of the ex Dinorwic Quarry Hunslets, as I'm looking at producing my own etched plates for my hunslets. Then it was onwards to the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association Show at Burton on Trent. Great to see the production samples of the forth coming Quarry Hunslets. Also great to catch up with my friend @Andrew Young and his layout Wheal Ponder.
Andrew Young
A grand day out. Good to see you yesterday, hopefully you returned home suitably inspired by 7mm scale modelling. Cheers Andrew 1
Giles
Hi Tom, I printed my name plates and painted them (nobody has really noticed yet....!). These are 16mm scale, but I can re-size and send you an stl file if you wanted. (I had to manipulate the font to get it more or less correct) 7

However I'm quite far ahead with some friends drawing up the artwork for Holy War and a few other examples, so I'm fairly committed. Your Holy War is exquisite! Popular Post Tom F
About 95% there on my first Dinorwic Alice Class in O16.5/NG7. Further tweaking to come when the nameplates arrive from the etchers plus the addition of new handrail. Very much wanted to capture the look of the Dinorwic engines, and for each one to look distinctively different. I’ll be starting the next one in the next week or so. 26 10 1

Do you primarily use powders or is this a mixture of techniques? Will

Will Very much a mixture of techniques. The entire model was repainted and relined to a colour that looked more like the Dinorwic/faded red. I also relined the whole model. The weathering was a mixture of airbrush, dry brushing, washes and powders. 3
Popular Post Tom F
Test fitted the new hand rails, which will be painted and added today. I’ve also removed the seam line off the cylinders. Hunslet cylinders often had scratches and dents, so I’ve beaten them up a bit too. Just awaiting the name and work plates to complete. 14
