Administrators Popular Post AY Mod Posted April 25 Administrators Popular Post Share Posted April 25 Revolution offers WIA car carriers in 00 and N Revolution Trains is offering the imposing WIA 5-piece articulated car carriers (UIC code: Sefoorss) as its next wagon model in both OO and N. CAD work is complete and once sufficient orders are reached tooling will begin. 60 five-piece sets were ordered by Railfreight Distribution from Arbel-Fauvet of France ahead of the opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994. The full covering not only offered protection from stones and theft, but also saved time and money because new vehicles did not require wax protection. Although impossible to see from the outside, the units are double-decked and the pale blue covers are raised in unison on self-contained jacks to allow easy loading and unloading. The characteristic angled roof profile is designed to maximise use of the British loading gauge. The WIAs were initially under-utilised, however they operated on various flows to Belgium, Italy and France, and also on domestic traffic between manufacturing plants and domestic terminals or docks for export. Current flows include Minis from Cowley and Jaguars from Castle Bromwich to Southampton Docks. The Revolution model features articulation units designed to enable the wagons to negotiate Radius 2 curves and the customer-fit detailing pack includes a representation of the outer control box if the tension-lock coupler is removed. Revolution’s Ben Ando says: “Transporting motor vehicles has long been an important traffic for the railway, and since we’ve already produced the Cartic-4s and IPAs in both OO and N, it makes sense for us to ‘complete the set’ car carriers.” Revolution’s Mike Hale said: “We’d like to thank DB Cargo for their assistance with this model, and it should be noted that these wagons allow modellers to depict fully-loaded car trains without the need to buy any model cars!” 29 6

bmthtrains - David
Depending on the price I’d be after an N set, the old kit versions always impressed me on layouts at exhibitions. David

I think they tended to operate in block trains however they do appear to have been mixed with other car carriers on occasion: Didcot-Mossend (with two HEAs in the consist..!): Castle Bromwich-Southampton (with the IPA car carriers already offered by Revolution): And the odd set could also be seen in consists being taken for maintenance or on trials: cheers Ben A. 8 1

jpendle
So would a "typical" rake consists of 4 or 5 five cars sets? Regards, John P
SWT442
An excellent choice, been waiting a long time in hopes I'd see these done RTR! I'll definitley be having a few sets to model the Morris Cowley working. Good thing is, you can get away with just the one set as part of an enterprise working or just on its own on a wagon move. Also means you can have them behind more locos than just an EWS/DB Class 66! Yesterdays working from Morris Cowley to Southampton and return was just 3 wagons, so even present day modellers can get away with a 'short' train of them! Initially was for 3 wagons a week but seemed quite sporadic at times. The Eastleigh 'Enterprise' and it's associated trip workings to Southampton Western Docks, Marchwood and Fawley are much missed since the demise of the General Freight Network (as DB called it) in 2017. SouthernMafia
At last! Great announcement, a full Cowley rake could break the bank! I'll be having a few sets for sure.
RobSkipworth
Brilliant choice, I had a feeling these would appear again at some point! Little off my patch but I'll probably pick up a set or two, properly iconic wagons.
RMweb Premium Davexoc Posted April 25 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25 The covers for 80% of a set were sat behind The Factory around 2002 for some reason.... No idea why though, or if there was ever a naked set running around.... 4

Torn now…
RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted April 26 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26 (edited) Many congratulations to Ben and Revolution on this announcement. We listed the WIA Car Carrier in The 00 Wishlist Poll for the first time in 2019 and again in 2022 (the latest Poll to run before we run again this December). The vehicles were high up in Middle Polling in both - a good result for 'modern' vehicles. We wish Ben and his team every success with the project.
