A clear run through...... but in the distance we can see that it is. as always only as far as Westwood Yard.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 13 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 13 In between the last two Up expresses there was a nine minute margin, theoretically, at least. It seems there was time for the D16 to move from the coaling stage and back onto the stock in the carriage siding. and now it is passed by 60514, in charge of the 1010 Edinburgh-KX.

Only ten cars behind the tender, so the loco stops short of the platform end. 28

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Monday at 08:03 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Monday at 08:03 Silver King emerges from the gloom, and passes the nice lady, who appears unmoved. She must have seen it before. Doesn't even take her Ian Allan out of her bag. and on goes 60016, passing the D16 in the carriage siding. What more could one ask on a Monday morning? An A4 and a D16 in the same shot. Here's a question for you. Where else could an A4 and a D16 be seen together in the 1950s? Not a lot of places, but there are one or two. 20

stewartingram Posted Monday at 11:00 Share Posted Monday at 11:00 Cambridge. D16 obviously. A4 frequent visitors on KGX trains (running in turns is the usual excuse). So that includes the branch from Hitchin via Shepreth Junction as well. But don't forget regular diversions. The line from Cambridge to Ely & March, then on to the ECML either via Peterborough, or Spalding. And the little known fact that the the St.Ives loop has been used instead of Ely; I believe that officially they weren't supposed to, but myself and other CBG trainspotters have seen them round there. 1

They did get there on the GN/GE stoppers from March, and at the end of their lives Lincoln got a few. Supposedly those were for the St Marks- Nottingham trains, but I've seen photos of them on Doncaster shed, so they must have been used on Central to Doncaster trains, again via the GN/GE. I am happy to be corrected, but I think it most unlikely that they reached York in BR days . The only way would be on the Colchester-Newcastle, which was a heavy train, and March had V2s specifically for that.

I don't remember ever seeing them at Central before that, which would cover the period between 1954 and their transfer to 40A.

I agree Stewart, in fact, apart from PN, Cambridge would be the most likely place. I can think of one more though, and it is on the ECML.
