A late evening KX Goods to Leeds Class C is next, apparently a regular duty for an A3, and notorious for Ardsley crews misreading signals at the South end of the Arlesey double track section and ploughing through the sand drag and into a marshy area behind the Down platform. Hermit has safely negotiated the area tonight and safely arrives at PN.

New router, tablet behaving, peace and order are restored. We are still looking at Hermit, on its way to Westwood yard.

No it isn't Gilbert gave me the Craftsman conversion kit of a Derby Long Underframe unit......surplus he said. He just wants to run a steam N-gin.

 

His railway so he can do what he wants. 👍

And so to the last train of the sequence. The 7.25 stopper from KX will terminate, and as usual brings a Pacific, this time one of Top Shed's shiniest. Captured running along the platform just before it stopped, which again I think makes a slightly different and rather nice shot.

 

the normal shot after the train has stopped, but further up than usual, as on Saturdays three more coaches were added at the rear of the five set.

As regards broken DEMUs. When the Rubber Band broke the Shedmaster attempted to find his Rubber Trumpet so as to at least start another Band ... I thank you.

It is rumoured that the Beatles heard about this in the early days and then later, a little confused after some 'substance' use, wrote Rubber Soul. However, the story continues, as  in 1963, Alan Peglar, the owner of British Rubber (Retford/Donny based Company) bought Flying Scotsman, enabled by the amount of Rubber sold.  This there is confusion about Rubber Bands and Robber Souls and Elastic was used in Knickers and Pants, not Bands, other than the feet on Music Stands and parts of some Drum Kits and Amplifier Cases.

Fascinating history there.

A5s are not made of Rubber.

I'm told that Solder Fumes are pretty uplifting! I prefer Evostick and that stuff you use for joining plastic Van and Wagon Kits...Solvent. Static Grass is OK, as long as you close the Curtains.

So here we are, back on a weekday, it is about 7am and the station pilot is moving the stock for the 7.25 to KX into a carriage siding.

 

Having done so, it retreats back to its normal resting place.

All artificial light photos both for these and for those to come, and despite all my efforts I can't get satisfactory results, but its either these or none at all.

I rather like the first one, Gilbert, the lighting looks realistic.

A new day brought an unexpected emergency. Collecting the stock for the 7.25 would normally be a job for the north end pilot, but when called upon it had a front bogie problem, so the N5 had to do the job. The C12 needs works attention, so a replacement had to be found at short notice. 7398 is New England's last C12, but although there should be several N5s none could be found, so one of the yard pilots has got the job.

Maenwhile the V2 for the 7.25 has come up the engine road, but must now wait here, as there is something approaching on the main.

Down the other end now, where we find Huddersfield Town waiting in the bay.

While at Platform 6 one of our down at heel V2s has brought in the stock for the 7.35 Doncaster Parly.

Really wierd lighting for this one, with which I could do very little.

The Parly seems to have a right rag-tag-and-bobtail formation.

Nice to see the 5-set!

 

To my mind, the 5-set is a must-have train for any GN steam era layout (and other areas) given a relatively short length but often with pacific power at the head. 

 

However, the sets always fare badly in The 00 Wishlist Poll and were the bottom of the list in the LNER Coaches category in 2022.

 

Conversely, the GE Quint Arts, GN and GE Quad Arts, Non-gangwayed Twin Arts and Triplet Restaurant Set are all High Polling.

 

Thoughts anyone?

It does indeed Ian. BZ BSK4 CK BZ BSK4 SK8 CK 3-3 SK7/BSK4 Twin. Doesn't make much sense, why a CK in that position between BSK and BZ for a start?  It wouldn't matter for long though, as the majority of the stations it served were closed at the end of the summer timetable, and the train ceased to run. Apparently it had been running in that path or very close to it ever since the line opened, so a bit of history gone.

Not so well known I think Brian. Most of the others you mention are, and I shudder as I write this, iconic, that appallingly overused word.

 

Essential for me though, so the two sets were the first I commissioned from dear Mike Radford a quarter of a century ago.

 

I just wonder though whether those who vote for quad and quint arts and a triplet set would actually buy them if they did appear, as at current price levels they would be very expensive.
