The signal comes off for Deltic at last, and it can rumble past the C12....

... and on under the roof.

At last Deltic is at a standstill, albeit briefly.

 

But with 14 on, it is soon necessary to pull forward to get the rear three cars onto the platform, and so it finishes up here.

At least the sounds it emits have been moved a bit further away. The residents of Station Road have probably never experienced anything like it before.

Platform 6 has remained a haven of calm while all the excitement has been going on, but now there is work to be done, as the Ely-Birmingham arrives.

61653 will come off, and be replaced by a Midland Region loco for the remainder of its journey.

On the Down, Doncaster A3 Diamond Jubilee, with brand new double chimney, brings in the 2.10pm KX-York and Hull, and will stop for four minutes.

 

and as it arrives, the Ely-Birmingham moves away. It will be well on to the Midland lines before the A3 needs to leave.

Our man on Spital Bridge remained alert, as he knew the A3 would be on its way soon.

The A3 was followed by an Ivatt with stock for the 3.48 to Kings Lynn, which it reversed into number 4 bay. Our other man by the Midland sidings decided he would take some shots of the latest stock now provided for theses services, but he was a bit slow, and missed the last coach.

An interesting day. Andy Y called me to tell me he thought my e mail had been hacked. It has, along with plenty of other Virgin customers. Hours spent trying to set a new password, but still getting no e mails. Finally a phone call, the usual accent and very quick speaking at the other end, and finally assured all is now well. But I still haven't had any e mails. Stress levels sky high, so just two more shots of the M&GN rake for now.

 

The CK is temporary, but the two Gresley shorties and the lovely GE 50 ft one will be permanently in this rake from now on.

Still no e mail. Here is the nice clean Ivatt that reversed the stock into the bay.

and here is the Saturday Elizabethan, headboard correctly reversed, and with Golden Plover substituted by Haymarket today.

I understand that the Saturday Elizabethan had  many additional vehicles added to the consist strengtheners and alternates... I can see the additional BG will you be modeling/representing other changes?

It is an all kadee formation, so difficult to add anything else. However, I had forgotten that Golden Plover has a Hunt coupling, so theat leading BG had to come in as a barrier vehicle.

Another morning of getting nowhere with Virgin Media, but I had thought early on to leave a message with my PC engineer to see if he could help. Early afternoon he arrived, went on the website, found the relevant page in less than a minute, and showed me that the scum had changed things to divert people from my e mail to a fake address. However, this was slightly worse scum than usual, and had got down two more layers. Thankfully, Brian the PC wizard was equal to it, and eradicated the lot. Hugh sigh of relief, and back to normal.

 

We are following Golden Plover, another very rare bird down south, and watch it passing the spotters, who might be jumping around if they weren't stuck down.......

That Ivatt is getting a lot of attention at the moment, possibly because the stock is so much shorter than the Thompsons which were in there before, so now we can have views like this.

And now it is on the way out, and we were supposed to have shots of the whole rake, but once again I can only find one.

Half is better than none though, don't you think?

Oh, I see, computer playing games again, and decided that the first should be last. So it put this image right at the end. Had it left it as planned, you would have seen the first two carriages of the M&GN rake. You can now.

And now, probably for the first time ever, our man on Spital Bridge has recorded a departing Ivatt.

Arrivals from both directions tonight. The 2.18 KX-Cleethorpes from the south...

and the 1130 Newcastle-KX from the north, behind Doncaster A1 Scottish Union.

Scottish Union runs between the C12 and the stock of the Cleethorpes.

It is then seen again at rest at the south end.

While 61142 will be heading for Cleethorpes.

Four minutes later, it is followed by Grantham A3 60054, nearly ex works, with the 2.28 Down Newcastle, which will also stop here.

Still can't quite make up my mind about double chimney A3s, but am increasingly coming to the conclusion that the original design and appearance was so good that an alteration like this made little difference. Let's have an opinion poll. Which do you prefer, single or double? German deflectors not included.

To me, the double chimney always looked better with the blinkers on. Without blinkers I don't think the double chimney quite looks right somehow. I can't explain why?

 

Also, has anyone seen the model of Peterborough East that's at Peterborough Museum?

Due to the period I model 1960, l don't permit single chimney A3s. So I guess familiarity dictates double chimney's the preference.

My original intention was 1960+/-2 years. If I had stuck with that then 60092 and 60039 I could have left single chimney's and not faffed about with replacements. 

Either way personally I think they are one of most elegant looking of locos.

Here's another experiment, a long range view of 60054 waiting to leave. I cannot now remember if I used any zoom on this.

I really like that second shot. Edge to edge filled with trains and the signal lattice posts came out great.
