RMweb Gold ITG Posted August 5 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 5 Morning, not sure if any followers of this thread are aware, but Peterborough Museum currently have an exhibition featuring Peterborough Railways. Some of it focuses on the ‘other’ station, that is East rather than North, but nevertheless may be of interest to some who are not too distant. The link below gives some details, and you’ll see there is a static model of Peterborough East station by Market Deeping Model Railway Club, plus talks on various subjects. Enjoy or ignore as you wish. https://peterboroughmuseum.org.uk/events/peterborough-railways Ian 1 1 3

The Museum and Library were very helpful to me when I first started my research back in 2010, and provided a lot of valuable information. It has always been my intention to offer the station side of the layout to the Museum eventually, and this will be the ideal opportunity to start discussions about that. 1

But surely also that she was catching a train that was due to stop at North? What would have been the point in her going to the East station, when her destination (now that’s another question) wasn’t served by the East? RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 6 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 6 I have the good fortune to live in a small village, surrounded by open countryside. Nevertheless, we have over 1000 people, lots of cars and dogs, and in daytime plenty of noise from tradesmen doing the latest alterations to houses. So, when i casually looked out of my bedroom window this morning at about 10am, I was surprised and delighted to see .... and with as much telephoto as I could get. No more than 150 yards from my front door. We know they are around, but to see one in daylight is very rare indeed.

It were that Dudders geezer who said about straight boilers, well Sir Nige's N-gins didn't have straight boilers, well them A3s and V2s didn't. I I tried my bestest not to be rude about the funny shaped boilers on the Great Western. They weren't straight in fact they were a bit queer looking. The shape of the boilers on Great Western locomotives are the correct shape, all the others are wrong due to lack of engineering knowledge. Any GWR enthusiast such as myself knows that.😁 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 6 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 6 Hermit is routed into Platform 6, for some reason. It has a six minute scheduled stop, so perhaps that was done to allow a delayed non stop service to get by. Anyway, here it comes, emerging from under the bridge. and with the whole length of the train visible, as it waits. All door seconds toppped and tailed by three compartment brakes, as many of these West Riding servces were.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 7 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 7 An Ivatt 4 arrives from Yarmouth Beach, the DMU idles away in number 5 bay, and our elderly C12 just rests. Hermit's wait is over, and away it goes to Grantham, where it will come off the train. Gang visiting today, and there is a goodie from Steve. Quite an unusual one too.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 7 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 7 I have somehow totally miscalculated, and find that only one image is in a fit state to show you. Hermit again, a nice angle. Tomorrow though you will see the goodie that Steve brought today. Clive had several buses in his hand, but claimed he didn't intend to do anything naughty with them. I didn't see a camera or phone, so maybe he was as innocent as he tried to look. 20

Those M&GN services are strange. They arrive but we never see them leave, reminds me of a certain Eagles song lyric. 5 2
