Oh! it seems there was another photographer lurking by the signal box, so we have one more look at Minoru.

The regular B1 for the lunchtime stopper to the Capital now brings its stock to Platform 2. On weekdays it goes to KX, but on a Saturday gets a bit of a change of scenery at the south end, and goes to Broad Street instead.

Here we are, just a short time before the station staff and train controllers get some news they did not want to hear. Welbeck Abbey is heading along the Up slow, whence it will take the chord down to East, and head the 2pm departure from there to Ipswich. But just a short while later the loco is to be brought to a standstill, there being a faulty turnout ahead. And that, on a frantic August Saturday, is the last thing anyone wants to hear, or see. That includes me, as there really is a point failure, and it isn't one I am competent to deal with.

It isn't a problem for Victor Wild of course, and away to Grantham it goes. Someone couldn't resist shooting into very strong light again though. The usual hope that monochrome may save it applies.

Just a few minutes of quiet on the Up, before Heaton's Ocean Swell arrives with the Sunderland-KX. It is seen from both sides on the approach to the station.

Just the six lattices to deal with, and artificial light needed.

More of Ocean Swell this morning, a sight which should have some of the spotters jumping up and down, but perhaps they ahve had a warning from authorty to keep quiet, or get thrown off the station.

The 1200 KX-Leeds is a Doncaster duty, and King's Courier has been given the job.

It now passes Ocean Swell, whose crew have decided to take on water.

So I decided to do a close up of 60144, but did not notice that it had lost a lamp beween fiddle yard and here.

However, I have an excuse, as my annual eye test revealed a cataract in my right eye., which has worsened in the last year. Nowhere near bad enough though, I'm told, for the NHS to consider doing anything about it, so up with it I must put. However, I do now have an excuse for missing these things, don't I?

I too had a cataract in my right eye (my only 'good' one after an op for retinal psychosis in the left eye was not successful some 20 years ago). I had my annual eye test at Vision Express (Huntingdon), where they found the cataract and booked me in for an op. They have an agreement with the NHS to go private (with SpaMedica in Peterborough) to save waiting time. There is is currently a 12-18 months wait with NHS; SpaMedica contacted me within 4 days, I had an initial appointment in another 2 days, and could have had the op the day after!. As it was, I left it until the following week, but they wanted another appointment;  (when I got there, small traces of the same as the left eye were now appearing in the right eye). So I went a few days later, got a confirmed op appointment after the BH weekend and was done on the Tuesday. All done within about 3 weeks, marvellous. Full marks and more for Vision Express and Spa Medica (and I suppose also the NHS).

I think it was. The reflection in the other train's sidelights is new and as I've said before I'll always vote for photos that show the underside of Crescent Bridge.

There's a very mixed formation behind 60144, so today we shall concentrate on that. It is a long train, so I'll split it into two posts. Here are the first eight cars.

Catering is RF RSP and Dia 27a SO. Rather a lot, but I suppose with a noon departure from KX there might be quite a lot of people ready for a meal.

I suppose there should be at least one loco to be seen each day too, so here is a rear three quarter view of 60144, well off the platform with thirteen on.

Getting very tedious now, no light for days again, and none forecast. We only have one image this morning, partly because I'm running short again, but also because I forgpt to photoshop any more yesterday. 60144 again, heading North, all signals off for the acceleration towards Stoke Bank.

Thanks Stuart, and Brian too. My neighbour had told me about this, but I'm afraid my experience of Vision Express has not been good, so I prefer to go to my local optician. As things are, I feel that it isn't too bad so far, so I shall wait until it really starts to have an impact.

Duly noted, John. It is a bit of guess work really, as the position in which I have to put the camera means I can't use the viewfinder, but I'll keep trying to get something reasonable.

Here is one more look at D201, for Clive not to comment on. But there is also a nice old steam loco for those who prefer it, and Neil will be pleased.

Today's forecast? Sunny changing to cloudy by late morning, as always.

A B1 has now appeared in the bay, and will take over the next Down Skegness.

This is one of the very early Bachmann B1s, which I numbered as a well remembered Lincoln engine from my youth, back in the days when I was not as obsessed with prototype accuracy as I seem to have become. I can't bring myself to change it now.

And here comes the Skegness, with one of the local B1s which is obviously not long out of a works visit. It won't look like this for long.
