First of all , I hoped that that you would all be looking at the loco, and not notice the background. I soon decided that wouldn't happen. Then I considered coming clean, and pleading with you to take no notice, but that would just have drawn more attention to it. So, make the best of it, and try to extract a little humour from it. It was a flying hand that hit the box, of course, and the little lad's black tac stopped working. The view finder isn't very big though, so at the time these things can get missed.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 1 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1 Walter K Wigham has 13 on, and so is well off the platform. I decided that a ten minute stop would surely involve an engine change, so local A2/3 Sun Castle is waiting to come across from the engine road when an opportunity arises. Move around a bit,and the whole of 60523 is in shot. and it looks rather nice, don't you think? 26
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 1 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1 (edited) Back to the north end, but this time I was able to do some cropping of the dodgy bits. First Up, we have another advancing A3, and a numerical coincidence. 60111 has an Up Saltburn, which it will have taken over at its home, Grantham. You also get the A4, and the tender of the A2/3. and another shot with bits of all three locos Edited July 1 by great northern capital

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Wednesday at 08:24 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Wednesday at 08:24 (edited) Here's the reason for the diversion of the Newcastle into Platform 6. It is to allow the Queen of Scots to overtake, which it now does behind grubby Copley Hill A1 Osprey. The Pullman was by no means a tightly timed train, but the prestige of its passengers meant that others had to wait. And of course in 1958 it probably was the quickest way for the well heeled to get from London to Scotland. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Wednesday at 17:29 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Wednesday at 17:29 Everything waits for Osprey. Three for the price of one, as it passes the A4 and A2/3. It just occurred to me to check the stock of the Newcastle, and I found that it is the only East Coast formation composed almost entirely of all door seconds,. There are a couple of CKs at the rear, but no catering at all. Not the sort of clientele that could be allowed to delay a prestige Pullman service.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Thursday at 06:41 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Thursday at 06:41 Now, here is an admission. However hard I tried, I just could not manage to photoshop this properly, so you get it warts and all. Please try to concentrate on the nice clean locomotive, as it meekly pulls away in the wake of the Queen of Scots. 19

I found my eye drawn to the loco and train! Roja 1 3

It has quite a list. Probably, but I can't persuade him to come out. Somehow, I have a shortage of Gresley BSK4 at present, and a couple of those in service, including this one, arent as good as I'd like. Timara has had a look at it, and says there isn't anything she can do about it, so I'm looking for some more. One will be poor long suffering Steve's next job after the one he is currently doing.

Good afternoon Gilbert, What's the origin of the errant coach? At first glance (though the picture is very blurred - most unusual) it looks like it could be a Trice/Hornby conversion (by whom?). I'll take a look at it if you wish. It shouldn't be difficult to fix. Regards, Tony.

I have actually managed to straighten it a little, but the body is not seated on the chassis properly.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Thursday at 17:34 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Thursday at 17:34 All days are the same. Glorious sunshine till about 11am, when the clouds roll in. Your evening image is of 60523 again, now approaching Spital Bridge. This was taken shortly after the last one, but didn't have the same problems. I wonder if I managed to get camera shake on the last one, though that shouldn't happen with a four second delay.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Friday at 08:09 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Friday at 08:09 Another Up Leeds comes into view, and yet another A3, KX allocated Minoru. Booked to come through without stopping at 1259pm, but no doubt running at least several minutes late. Photo taken eight days ago, no sun at the right time since then, and none in the forecast for the next week. Back to artificial light, I think. 27
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Friday at 17:35 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Friday at 17:35 Now we have Minoru a little further on, and just passing North box. Looks as though someone has already been and put the roof straight. I think the lad is just having a kip. To my surprise, we got some sun, in and out though it was, so a few more images are waiting to be processed.

LNERW1 Posted Saturday at 10:45 Share Posted Saturday at 10:45 I have just stumbled across this topic, your layout is brilliant, as is your stock. How much of it is RTR? I’m afraid I couldn’t bring myself to look back over 1538 pages to find out (my own “main” layout thread on IRM has but one page)! Best wishes, and have a lovely day.

Many thanks for those kind words. The vast majority of the stock is RTR, the standard these days being so high. About 20 kit built locos, mainly to cover the gaps in RTR availability which look as though they may never be filled. Some kit built coaches, but again mainly to allow me to run things which are necessary for prototype accuracy. A higher proportion than with locos though.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Saturday at 11:32 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Saturday at 11:32 Having had to deprive you of your usual rations for the last few days, I thought I'd put up some photos of the real thing. A couple of days ago I had a trip to the Great Central, and to Quorn and Woodhouse, which I had not visited for many years. I'd forgotten how much infrastructure is still there, so although only one steam service passed through while I was there, I did some browsing around too. Here are the results. 26
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted Saturday at 17:21 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted Saturday at 17:21 The Grantham has stopped, and we can confirm the loco is Victor Wild, not one of their cleanest. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted 23 hours ago Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted 23 hours ago Still only one image, as I discovered that some I took the other day in poor light aren't good enough for publication. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted 14 hours ago Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted 14 hours ago Some occasional sunshine, so I have experimented with artificial lights on, but also blinds partially open, and taken some more photos. Haven't had time to do anything with them yet, so this evening it is one last look at Minoru, coming under the bridge and on its way. Very experimental. Is it irretrievably spoilt by the way the bridge presses down on everything else so obtrusively?
