Walter K Wigham has 13 on, and so is well off the platform. I decided that a ten minute stop would surely involve an engine change, so local A2/3 Sun Castle is waiting to come across from the engine road when an opportunity arises.

Move around a bit,and the whole of 60523 is in shot.

Back to the north end, but this time I was able to do some cropping of the dodgy bits.

 

First Up, we have another advancing A3, and a numerical coincidence. 60111 has an Up Saltburn, which it will have taken over at its home, Grantham. You also get the A4, and the tender of the A2/3.

The weather has reverted to its old ways, never any sun when it is of use for photography, so back to one image for now. Here is 60111 snaking round the curve, and about to come under the bridge.

Here's the reason for the diversion of the Newcastle into Platform 6. It is to allow the Queen of Scots to overtake, which it now does behind grubby Copley Hill A1 Osprey. The Pullman was by no means a tightly timed train, but the prestige of its passengers meant that others had to wait. And of course in 1958 it probably was the quickest way for the well heeled to get from London to Scotland.

Everything waits for Osprey. Three for the price of one, as it passes the A4 and A2/3. It just occurred to me to check the stock of the Newcastle, and I found that it is the only East Coast formation composed almost entirely of all door seconds,. There are a couple of CKs at the rear, but no catering at all. Not the sort of clientele that could be allowed to delay a prestige Pullman service.

Now, here is an admission. However hard I tried, I just could not manage to photoshop this properly, so you get it warts and all. Please try to concentrate on the nice clean locomotive, as it meekly pulls away in the wake of the Queen of Scots.

With such subject matter the background is irrelevant!  At least, it is to me!  I found my eye drawn to the loco and train!

Without wishing to be indelicate, Gilbert, is there a fat bloke on the bog in that BSK?   It has quite a list.

Probably, but I can't persuade him to come out. Somehow, I have a shortage of Gresley BSK4 at present, and a couple of those in service, including this one, arent as good as I'd like. Timara has had a look at it, and says there isn't anything she can do about it, so I'm looking for some more. One will be poor long suffering Steve's next job after the one he is currently doing.

What's the origin of the errant coach? At first glance (though the picture is very blurred - most unusual) it looks like it could be a Trice/Hornby conversion (by whom?). 

 

I'll take a look at it if you wish. It shouldn't be difficult to fix.

Thank you Tony. Shall I bring it to you, or would you like to come here?  It is a Trice/Hornby conversion, but I can't remember who did it. I have actually managed to straighten it a little, but the body is not seated on the chassis properly.

All days are the same. Glorious sunshine till about 11am, when the clouds roll in. Your evening image is of 60523 again, now approaching Spital Bridge.

This was taken shortly after the last one, but didn't have the same problems. I wonder if I managed to get camera shake on the last one, though that shouldn't happen with a four second delay.

Another Up Leeds comes into view, and yet another A3, KX allocated Minoru. Booked to come through without stopping at 1259pm, but no doubt running at least several minutes late.

Photo taken eight days ago, no sun at the right time since then, and none in the forecast for the next week. Back to artificial light, I think.
