Hello Gilbertand everyone

 

Just a note that we are running our usual 'little bit of Christmas fun' with The Quirky Poll 2023.

 

Within the 25 items, we have four of 'eastern interest' as well as such as Ivor the Engine. Although the Team provides many of the listings, about half come from voter suggestions from the previous Poll (which we now run in alternate years with The 00 Wishlist Poll).

 

As per the main poll, you can vote for whatever you like as long as you would realistically wish to buy the item if it were ever made (assuming high street prices, modern levels of quality etc).

Meanwhile the Ely-Birmingham now has its replacement engine, and is on its way.

And now, at last, the 9F which has been simmering away on the Up slow gets the road, and can cross back over to get on its way to Ferme Park.

I did think of that Andy, but only after I had taken the photo and the train had returned to the fiddle yard. It is a Gresley, the Kirk one you saw when you were here, I think.

At 3.48pm the Ivatt 4 leaves for Kings Lynn.

There is then a full ten minutes before anything else occurs, which must be most unusual at PN. At 3.58 it is the turn of the B1 to head away towards Grantham. It is noteworthy in that it is the only northbound train of the day that stops at Tallington, and one of very few that also stops at Great Ponton. not for long though, as both will close at the end of the summer timetable.

The early afternoon York Parcels has crept unnoticed into Platform 6, where it will stand for twenty minutes.

Noticeable, I think, that I was rapidly losing the light by the time I took the one above.

 

The next one was taken several days later, wit not much natural light available again. Up coal for Ferme Park again, but the 9F has been sent along the slow again, Which gives us the chance of a side on close up of a very impressive beast.

Someone has been telling you a load of rubbish again. If you haven't already noticed, the 9F is on the Up main, not the slow, as evidenced by the way it is now passing the V2.

Definitely on the Down slow though is this WD, bringing empties from Ashburton Grove and various others picked up from country station yards on its way here.

Back up on the bridge to watch the 9F going on its way.

and to wait a few moments, having heard the sound of an approaching train from the south, in order to get this shot of an A3 heading north.

Having quickly changed camera, of course.

Couldn't get the number of the A3? No problem, as we have someone else at ground level.

Just Persimmon again, the train being the 2.52 KX-Newcastle relief, running about twenty minutes ahead of the main train.

 

Not stopping here, so the WD will have longer to wait.

Back on the bridge to wave goodbye to 60050, and survey a congested north end of the station.

Then it is time for another A4 with the 1.45 Leeds-KX, another Friday relief.

Well, its that time of year again, and I'm no more capable of doing clever things to images than I ever have been, so it is HAPPY CHRISTMAS to each and everyone who follows PN, some of whom have been doing so since the beginning. Your support and interest has been key in getting the layout to where it is now, and in spurring me on to think of ways to improve and enhance what I am able to put on here to show you. The layout may be nearly finished, but for so long as people wish to call in each day or every few days to see what time it is at PN, and what's on the 5.35 Newcastle. I shall continue to run the trains, take the photos, and do my best to provide something which you may feel is worth looking at. I really am capable of being very idle, so thanks once again for keeping me motivated, often it is what gets me out of my chair and up to play with my trains.

 

As it happens, the next image is one of the most recognisable and recurring to be seen of PN in the glorious days of steam, so here is Dominion of Canada passing North box.

 

I really did try to attach an appropriate caption somehwere in the sky, with a message of good cheer to all men, and ladies too,of course, and others, but failed miserably, so here it is. I should also thank the sun for coming out and finding a tiny gap in the blinds just as I pressed the shutter.

Happy Christmas Gilbert, the effort you go to each day is much appreciated. I've not been here from the beginning but it must be quite a few years now. This is a thread I drop in on every day, and look forward to updates in 2024.

I didn't know Peterborough in the period but sometimes used to go to Grantham so I saw many of the same workings.

60010 is still at rest as Hitchin B1 61027 brings in the afternoon local from its home town.

Just after it has passed and gone under the roof, 60010 moves away, the photographer having backed off a few paces to get a new angle.

If that red van near the fence were to be a '39 Austin Ruby in green, and facing the tracks, that could be Grandad parked up, with me doing some trainspotting. Memories, thanks Gilbert.

Thanks from me as well Gilbert. From my first visit to Kings Cross and seeing first Silver Fox and then Sliver King arrive and stand side by side in the platforms my enthusiasm for A4’s has never dimmed , ( although all LNER Steam is special to me). Like many others I log in most days and never tire, not just of the engines but the whole railway scene, including the “Plonks”.

So thanks for all you efforts including the background information, and may  long continue.

Away goes 60010, about to plunge into brief gloom under the bridge. I like this one, partly because it required no photoshopping at all.

More gloom at the other end, with 61027 just peeping out of it.
