RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 29, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 29, 2023 Lovely morning at Little Bytham, where I saw my repaired J6 running very smoothly, and a selection of the locomotives Tony has built in the comparatively short time since I last visited. I don't know how he does it. The usual route is via A52 Grantham, horrible road, loads of traffic and hardly anywhere safe to overtake, and then A1 which is usually manic, before a few miles of rural quiet to LB. So, I decided to cut across country, and amazingly between turning off the A52 and reaching the A1 much further south, I saw only one other vehicle in front of me. The distance was about 28 miles! And it took only ten minutes longer as well. The J6 and I arrived home well pleased. At PN, we carry on watching Isinglass as it slows for the stop. 28

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 30, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2023 Yet more of Isinglass this morning, but one cannot have too much of an A3. Timara bearing goodies later, but unfortunately one less than expected, owing to a manufacturing error, not one by Timara.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 30, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2023 Goodies in the morning. Now though we have a 9F on the Down slow. and the A3 gets in the picture again too. Nice to get at least part of the train in shot, but still only 11 out of 42.

Thanks Gilbert, Any problems you encountered were because of the J6's bumpy ride to England from down under. Tony Weber's work was excellent, and all I did was just straighten a few things out. Thanks for sorting it out Tony, be good to see it running on PN again, but it's sojourn on Little Bytham did bring a big smile down under! RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 31, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2023 A panorama at the north end, with the 9F creeping into view, signalled into New England coal roads. and a last look at Isinglass on its way to London.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 31, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2023 Yesterday's goodie. I've had this loco a long time, and never been quite happy with Bachmann's paint and lining. It had to wait until nearly all the glamour ous engines had been dealt with, but at last New England's 61978 looks a lot more as it would have done in 1958. There is a foreign interloper too, but I'm leaving it to Timara to show you the images he took of that, and those he took of the K3 in daylight outside. 28 1 1

As always, first class weathering. I only saw one K3, 61912 which, I think, was being used as a stationary boiler at New England. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 31, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2023 A look at the pilots, waiting for something to do. and it is the turn of an 02 to head for the capital with coal.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 1, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2023 A second look at the 02, from a slightly different angle. after it passed through, our ghost J3 came along the engine road, towing a brake van. On its way to South Yard, or even possibly Fletton. 31
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 1, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2023 Here's a better view of the lovely little J3. Then over to Platform 6, where Doncaster's A3 Tagalie has arrived with the 5.50 KX- Grantham. 30
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 2, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2023 (edited) More 9F hauled coal empties on the slow, but this will be the last for several hours. This seemed to cry out for black and white, and even the bridge to nowhere doesn't jar too much. Well, not to me anyway. On the rear of the Grantham there is a horsebox, probably occupied. They seem to have come off here sometimes, perhaps going down to East for onward transmission to Newmarket? Anyway, the N5 has buffered up, and will remove it. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 2, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2023 The 9F is signalled through, for once, as Tagalie has a ten minute stop. and duly follows on a few minutes later. But on the main, of course, not into the yards.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 3, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2023 Another of our local V2s, still in black livery beneath the coat of grime, brings through a Ferme Park to New England Class C.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 3, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2023 The V2 is signalled into New England main. So a few minutes have obviously passed before 43142 can bring in a local from Kings Lynn.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 4, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2023 So, an arrival from Kings Lynn came in from the North, but, timetabled also to arrive at 8.35am, we have an arrival from March, also in that direction, but this one arrives from the South, via East station. The stock behind Doncaster Rovers is worth a look. Shortie BSK at the front. an all door second and another then a Composite. and finally a non corridor second. Why there should be one non corridor in a rake of otherwise gangwayed stock I do not know, but that it what the CWN specifies. I have all the Eastern region CWN save for the E.Lincs services, and this is the only mention of a non corridor coach in any of them.

I have one Cleethorpes to Sidmouth and Exmouth SO, Summer TT, 1962 with a good old mix of MK 1s, Gresleys, Thompsons (all Gangway stock) and a Thompson NG Semi Lav at the 'west' end, making up the 11th Coach and thus Double Headed from Bath to Templecombe ! It probably only happened once south and then once back north and Ivo Peters got a pic of it. Thus I will use that particular Train because it's ODD! Rather like yours here. Your Train was a frequent/regular turn, whereas 'mine' was once a week and made up of almost anything they could dig up it would seem! Such fun isn't it? Beautiful looking stock there Gilbert; all Kits/Conversions no doubt, (apart from the NG)? Phil 3

Phil The NG is one of a very nice set of three built for me by Ian Willets.......not long before Hornby announced theirs. Only 15 miles from March to PN, so perhaps lack of convenience wasn't that dire a prospect. All the rest is indeed kit built or conversion, two by our esteemed mate Mr Pearce, and the rest by Ian Willets.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 4, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2023 Another angle on Doncaster Rovers. and another 9F on the Up slow, this one about to be stopped and told off for displaying the wrong lamps. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 5, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 5, 2023 9F under the bridge, still claiming to be running Class F. It carries on across to the Up and disappears, after which the Ivatt can take its stock down to Nene sidings, and that frees up Platform 2 for the arrival of the early morning nearly all stations stopper from Grimsby, which has taken a long time to get here. 27

That three Coach set is one of my favourites on the layout; just looks absolutely the correct colour from my addled memory. That Mr Pearce is a hidden gem isn't he.
