RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted August 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2023 Ah that's what I like, the humdrum daily work of the ordinary trains carrying freight of one sort or another to the masses. Clanking couplings and buffers, squealing flanges and coal smoke. You can keep those there fancy passengeer trains..... 😉 3 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 17, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 17, 2023 I don't think I've tried this before. Not too bad. Here's the reason the 9F is waiting on the slow. Silver King brings through the Talisman. and the very carefully centred headboard has slipped again.😠
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 17, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 17, 2023 Silver King runs past North box. and alongside Platform 2. I do hate wonky headboards. They seem to instantly become the centre of attention.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 18, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2023 9F waiting , for some reason well back from the signal. But actually of course the reason is that there is no signal at present, as becomes obvious in the next image.

It does show nearly the whole width of the station baseboard though. And there is a side on close up to follow.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 19, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 19, 2023 The Talisman has accelerated away, so the 9F can now cross back to the Up and on towards Ferme Park. and another view from a different angle I haven't used before. I think it works now that the bridge extension and Station Road are in place. 30 1

Gilbert I’ve no idea what makes a great photo but last shot of the K2 and the picture of Sir Walter Scott in the bay have absolute captured my imagination for no particular reason. I spent a long time looking at the K2 and could almost hear the clanking of the rods a rattling of the wagons as it rattled through. A lovely atmospheric shot from an angle our intrepid photographer should be encouraged to try again. Sir Walter Scott - well that picture from that angle really sums up everything a thousand words could say in praise of the high point of ECML steam. Two great pictures. 1

I've not much idea what makes a great photo either! Different things to different people, I suspect. Occasionally I take a photo and look at it once I've processed it and have a wow moment, but what differs it from others taken almost from the same angle which have no wow factor, I have no idea. 5
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 21, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 21, 2023 Probably the last visit this year of Peter Leyland, and once again work was concentrated on the Station Road/Cowgate area. We have little information, what we do have is conflicting, and we are working on a rectangle when the whole thing should be on an angle. Thus we really just have to use our imagination and try to do what looks right. What to do with the area under the bridge girders on the extension was a problem. I didn't like the effect of being able to see through it, so we walled up Mr slightly posh person's garden. Plans appear to show buildings of some kind on the Cowgate side, but we had no clue as to what they were, so in the end we decided that there should be a business of some kind using the area under the bridge, with the frontage flush as often seen under viaducts. and here it is. There will be a sign at the top, hiding the slight gap, and now I need to find a name for the business. Any suggestions. All the plans do show the footpath emerging from under the bridge ending in this slightly strange way, so that's what we did. A slightly closer view, which shows there is some fettling to be done, and that more detail should be added. I will attend to that. The rest of the footpath under the bridge has been added, but needs to be finished off, and it does make this view look a good deal better. and there is now an elderly couple walking arm in arm towards the station, kindly painted for me by Phil. It'll take them a while though, as they are superglued down. and finally what is almost certainly the last bit of the layout to be filled in. We don't have much idea what to do with this at the moment.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 21, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 21, 2023 Gannet emerges from beneath the bridge. and we shall see what stock it is hauling. There you are. BSK each end, and eight end vestibule seconds. No first class and no catering, but no MK1s either. 26
