I don't think we often see that type of view of a 4mt,  I do have a big soft spot for them. Really like both photos,  the finish on the A3 tender is superb.

Quite right Martyn. I have been guilty of unconscious prejudice where Ivatts are concerned. It suddenly occurred to me that I take a picture of just about everything incoming from that angle, but never a 4MT, so I did. There's another one on the way too.

When an A3 is at Platform 6 one gets a lovely and relatively uncluttered view, so here is Sandwich again.

There has to be some smart work by the station staff, as the Ivatt has to move its stock out of the way quickly, as yet another express will be bearing down on it. Actually, it will probably in a queue allowing passengers to survey the beauty of New England yards.

Here's why the 4MT had to get out of the way quickly. Isinglass on the way in with the 1148 Up Leeds.

 

First time I've tried this next view since the new buildings arrived.

and they have the desired effect agin, filling in the void that was the backdrop previously.

A very restless night following a tooth extraction, so don't expect much sense from me today. Not much sense on display the other day either, when I decided to zoom in on that last image. Why, I don't know, as it inevitably ends in frustration and cursing. This one, however, turned out to be not so bad.

 

One of New England's most disreputable V2s, still black under all the dirt, then comes under the bridge with the 1.28 KX-Hull.

My new smart watch informs me that I slept for just 4hrs 23 minutes last night, and was awake continuously from 2am to 5.30am. It felt like that too. Unsurprisingly, I have done nothing much today, except eat very cautiously, and I shall be in bed very shortly, hoping for a better experience.

 

Someone thought that disreputable V2 was worth two more shots.

Stock for the 3.00pm to Grimsby is being brought into Platform 6. Both New England and Immingham have now run out of available B1s, so D11 Marne gets the job. This is one of my more dubious workings, as 62670 was by this time a Sheffield Darnall engine, and would have been going to Cleethorpes regularly, but on trains via the GC. So Retford, yes, but PN very unlikely. However, I like D11s, and they were part of my earliest trainspotting experiences. Indeed Marne was the first I saw, on the Midland at Lincoln St Marks. So, it has gone on Immingham shed after arrival from Sheffield, and they pinched it for a trip down the E.Lincs and back

You don't usually see empty stock coming in, but any excuse is taken to feature the new buildings at the moment. Speaking of which, on Sunday Peter Leyland will be here with the final two, weather permitting.

 

There's action on the Up too, as Golden Fleece slows for the stop with the 1056 Ripon-KX.

Golden Fleece has stopped, but there's some clutter in the way.

Green Arrow is heading north with the 1.40 KX-Edinburgh, having been turned round rather quickly at KX loco. It will only be going as far as Grantham, where a longer rest will be available.

Between 12 and 2pm was apparently the crunch time at KX, but with the turntable and facilities at the station this kind of turn around could be done. I haven't seen any figures for KX, but that Grantham article shows the quickest turn round and return to London from there being just 56 minutes.

Eleven years ago it seemed a very good idea to paint the railway room walls duck egg blue, the idea being that would be ideal for photography. Alas, it was not, but here is one of the very rare occasions when I feel that I can show an image without any photoshopping.

 

Another look at Green Arrow is the morning's other offering.

Your comment about the colour of your walls in the railway room makes me wonder what colour, in retrospect you would now paint them?

 

Yesterday I was looking for an article in an old Model Railways magazine (edlt - 1974), and had a double take at a picture of a model of...Peterborough North. Flipped back to it and found it to be by IIRC Barnet MRC, and the article was about making the station buildings, which all felt so familiar!  They weren't bad either, but not up to Mr G. Train's superb models on your layout.

I tried white card over the blue, and got the same result, the camera saw both as grey. It is photoshopping lattices that gives the greatest problem, as grey weathered signals on a grey background don't make for easy processing. Then I tried a sheet of yellow card, thinking that the contrast would surely makes things much easier, but it didn't, as I just got yellow margins round every lattice, which was just as much of a pain. The problem areas are at the ends of the room, particularly the Spital Bridge end, which is always in shadow, even with the improved LED lighting. I've considered LED strips at that end, but have been reminded that that will just deepen the shadows underneath the overhanging bookcases. I think I'll have to accept what I've got, unless anyone has any sensational ideas.

 

I've seen that article somewhere. Of its time, but good for that time. It may have been what put PN into my mind all those years ago.

Have you considered having LED lighting underneath the bookcases?  That should eradicate the shadows.

It is the bookcases themselves which are the problem Paul. I can block off underneath, which I prefer to do anyway, because of the sharp curve. The LEDS would have to go higher, in order to give more light behind all the signals, but I can't do that, as I then wouldn't be able to pull up the blinds which hide the bookcases. If I pull the blinds up, I know from past experience that creates an even worse problem when photoshopping. I think all we could do would be to make the signals really smoke blackened, as black on white should surely work, but I don't want to cover  Graham's lovely work like that, and I don't think he would be very pleased either.

Time for one of the few trip workings we shall see on a Saturday, as a J6 brings wagons from Conington sidings along the slow.

 

Meanwhile the Claud has sneaked unobserved down to number 1 bay, and backed on to the two coaches of the East shuttle.

The backdrop of the houses improves this shot no end.

Our photograher now manages to keep the Claud in shot while also capturing 60117 coming in with the 1.52 Down Leeds.

and the man at the other end gets the A1s onward progress.

 

 

The camera notices that we have a derailed BZ in the yard. I didn't.

More of 60117 tonight. First the view a lot of people seem particularly fond of.

Then a rear three quarter shot.

 

I shall not try that one again.

Its the expanse of nothing under the bridge, and the sharp curve, that I don't like. I wonder if I could find a way of filling that space a bit?

The end of Spital Junction box should be visible, for a start, and the ends of a lot of wagons too.
