RMweb Premium 31A Posted February 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2021 I don't very often do these polls, but if voting for Brighton engines I'll go for the Atlantic since they had the good sense to copy Doncaster!
Woodcock29
I can also vote for the I3 as at least I know what it is as I get to operate one on a mates layout quite regularly here in Adelaide I'm looking forward to SECR - such a 'pretty' livery - hope its next! RMweb Premium Metropolitan H Posted February 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2021 That's a relief, I can go back to voting for the excellent large tank locomotives. For the LB&SCR my vote goes to Lawson Billinton's 'L' Class 4-6-4T - specifically No. 333 "Rememberance". Regards Chris H
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 15, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 15, 2021 Golden Fleece again, but still in rather difficult light conditions. I doubt I could have taken this with the equipment available in 1958.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted February 15, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2021 Whoops, forgot the poll. 7 people of great taste and discernment voted for the I3 Atlantic tank, which was the clear winner. SECR today. 1
RMweb Premium St Enodoc Posted February 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2021 I could nominate Wainwright's S class, thereby giving us all an excuse to run our Tri-ang clockwork saddle tanks, but that would be silly. Instead, I'll pick the Stirling R1, thereby giving us all an excuse to run our Hornby-Dublo 0-6-0 tanks...
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 15, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 15, 2021 Well, for today’s poll, I think I’ll go with that R1 tank engine too. Rob.

RMweb Premium 3rd Rail Exile Posted February 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2021 I'm going to go for the K Class 2-6-4T, the first example of which was built by the SE&CR. None survive in that form, though one of the U Class they were rebuilt into, does. An unfairly maligned design...

RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted February 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2021 Today I will vote for the L class. Mr Clayton in charge of the drawing, having previously employed by the Midland Railway, managed to combine the lovely sweeping splashers of the previous D and E class with the purposeful looking Belpaire boiler similar to those fitted to Mr Deeley's locomotives of his former employer. Visually compatible with Mr Deeley's rebuilding of Mr Johnson's 4-4-0 locomotives without superheating. His later involvement with the rebuilding of the D and E classes to D1 and E1 and the later L1 locos followed the lines of Mr Folwer's (later Sir Henry Fowler) rebuilding of Mr Johnson's 4-4-0s with superheaters which resulted in nice looking locomotives but not quite as attractive as the L class of locomotives. 1

LNER4479
I'm afraid that I have even less idea than yesterday of what you lot are going on about. But it is a nice livery, for sure: Edited February 15, 2021 by LNER4479 11
RMweb Premium Metropolitan H Posted February 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2021 Another vote for the "K" Class here. Pity the loco needed much better track than the SR had to avoid derailments. Regards Chris H

sandra
The L class 4-4-0 for me the so-called German locomotives because some were supplied in component form by Borsig of Berlin in1914. Notice the date, I’m not sure if Borsig were paid for them.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted February 16, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 16, 2021 A bit confusing, all these Js Ks Ls, plus some Es and Rs, but L came out on top with 4 votes. And so to the London and South Western Railway. And another reminder that we are looking for the most glaring omission from preservation.
RMweb Premium St Enodoc Posted February 16, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 16, 2021 (edited) Something spectacular like a G16 or an H16... Yes, the G16 4-8-0T hump shunters. Edited February 16, 2021 by St Enodoc wrong way round
