It is something about which I don't feel at all confident. I knew someone would suggest it though. I am sure some kind person of this parish might volunteer to visit and do a video session. I would really enjoy seeing the results.

If it is, well done, that will be the first such example I have ever seen on a model railway. There are two of them Martin, one on Platform 2, and the other on 6. As usual, Peter Leyland was equal to the challenge. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 15, 2019 So, on the course where I first played golf with my parents 56 years ago, and which has such happy memories for me, today I played better than I have for years, and realised that my feeling that my former prowess still lurked somewhere was actually correct. This may be a very important day in my golfing life, but may also take a while to sink in. Anyway, it were great. There is yet one more image of 60050, getting ever closer. The A3 then stopped for five minutes, during which time another WD came into view under Crescent Bridge. That backscene is nearly there, but not quite. It seems too high from this angle. Today though, I do not care. 22
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 16, 2019 Today we have to finish the match that was adjourned when darkness fell. That means walking out to the fifth tee, quite a way, with the distinct possibility that we shall only play one hole, and then walk all the way back again. The weather forecast? More than 95% chance of heavy rain, and gale force winds. This WD will not get very wet under the roof, although there is evidence that it did leak a bit. It then plodded on under clear signal for destination New England. Passing the DE buildings as it progressed. This was one of those instances when I just put the camera down temporarily, looked through the viewfinder, liked what I saw, and just took a photo.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted August 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2019 Update. The weather forecast was right. We splashed our way out to the 5th tee. My partner hit a good drive, I hit a decent second shot, he got us to about 15 ft, I holed the putt, and we won the match. We splashed our way back, and went and had some drinks. Now for the final, 36 holes in a day. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 17, 2019 Another look at a WD first today. It was followed by a J50 slinking down the engine road on its way to do some shunting in South Yard.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 17, 2019 Golf is late on today, so I paid an early visit to the railway room. It is easier now to get the camera where I can take views from Spital Bridge, but still not straightforward, and very easy to get portions of my anatomy in shot, which we don't want. Here's a first attempt, which I felt should have a sky to complete the scene. 29

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 17, 2019 The 5.50 KX- Grantham is next. Normally a four coach formation, it was sometimes augmented by horseboxes, ECS, and even sleeping cars, for some reason going only as far as Peterborough. Today though, it is the usual four, but not the usual Doncaster engine. 36A are running in Haymarket's 60090, and are keeping it for quite a while. Very prototypical this, as it takes place well before any spotters would have arrived.

It isn't too far off Steve. Needs to be a bit longer, at both ends probably, and I have to solve the conundrum as to why it looks convincing from some angles, but not from others.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 17, 2019 This closer crop also shows that it is a bit too high still. If I take more off the bottom though, it doesn't look right at all. It may well need to be, literally, an artist's impression. The power station should be further to the left as well. 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 18, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2019 60090 is now enjoying a 10 minute rest. which means that an 02 on empties is as usual relegated to the slow line. The news, good or bad depending whether there is any overtime in sight, is that there is a clear road into the yards.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 18, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2019 60090 heads off towards Grantham, and a little closer to home. We can have a look at what's behind the tender, which won't take long, as there isn't much of it. 25
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 19, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 19, 2019 Another parcels working slips under Crescent Bridge. It occurs to me that this V2 is now 27 years old, so I looked In Yeadon to see how long the real 60867 survived. 23 years is the answer! I'm not sure this proves anything, but it was thought provoking, for me anyway. A short while later, 60867 was captured on film again from Spital Bridge.
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted August 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 19, 2019 That last shot is a cracker! I really do like that viewpoint, even though you have to go through contortions to get it (but noting that it is less contortionistic than before...) 1
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted August 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 19, 2019 With that backscene view under the bridge G, could you put it on paper that actually starts on the baseboard top and then curves up into that scene, rather than the sheet just sitting at 90* onto the board? Experiment with the 'amount of curve required'. P

It is much easier now Tony, except for the sqeeze along the baseboards, but when I get the camera the other side of the bridge, or up on top, seeing the viewfinder can be tricky. I'm trying to think of a way around that problem.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 19, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 19, 2019 A couple of shots that I don't think really came out well tonight, but I've learned now just to post them and leave you to make your own minds up. A close up of the V2 first. then another Ivatt on the way in from Kings Lynn. An attempt at a new angle here, but as I say, it doesn't do much for me.
