Some time ago our very generous duck, Phil, gave me a number of Comet coach sides from the Aladdin's cave which is his loft, and I asked Steve (31A), to convert a couple of Hornby things into something more bearable. As usual, he rose to the occasion, and here they are. Lovely job, as always, and some very nice subtle differences in finish. I am now a bit closer to being able to model a train that featured no less than ten of these, but I'll give Steve a break and something different next. Well I am not letting you have this one when I get it finished. It is being made from Hornby Railroad Gresley coaches, loads of work still to do on this and a few others, like the dia 196 BSO to go with it. Please do pop over and have a look at the others on my Sheffield Exchange thread......there is also some nice DMUs by Gibbo675 on there tonight.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 12, 2019 Reversing V2s this morning. Shabby 60853 onto the Doncaster Parly, while the N5 completes its shunting task. The N5 having finished the job, better presented 60875 can back onto the 7.25 to KX.

The 1905 from Aberdeen looks like the best bet - just one SLSTP and one SLF (admittedly a long Gresley, but I’m sure yours could substitute) plus a lot of mark 1s. Next time hopefully. jwealleans
Quote that six wheeler in the DE siding immediately caught my eye. I'm wondering if it is one that Bill Bedford does. I'll ask Jonathan, he'll know. Picking up on Martin's post, that vehicle has the look of an ex-MR 6 wheeler of the type Slater's produce (or maybe produced). I don't recall any 6 wheel Howlden clerestories and although the panelling is indistinct, it doesn't have a GN feel to it.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 12, 2019 We've actually reached yesterday's photos now, so I'm sure you will not be surprised to find lots of images taken at the North end. We start with shabby 60853 on its way to calling nearly everywhere between here and Doncaster. Not much to write home about, so I tried it from the opposite direction. This might work better with the bridge cropped out, and without such strong light on the right.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 13, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 13, 2019 Next train was an Up mixed goods, and it took me rather by surprise, as by the time I put it together it had over seventy wagons on. Effectively it is two full rakes, both of which have had their numbers boosted recently. It made for an interesting exercise in getting it all back into storage without any part of it protruding into the "real world". Quite impossible, of course, to photograph the whole thing in one go, or even several. Anyway, here is the 9F getting to grips with its load, which it handled without the slightest difficulty.

I quite like it with the bridge in shot; it sets the scene and frames the picture quite nicely!

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 13, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 13, 2019 Another shot of the 9F approaching with its heavy load. While in the opposite direction, we have a complete contrast, as the first Leicester of the day is brought in by an ancient 0.6.0.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 14, 2019 I've been thinking again. I know its bad for me, but I can't help it. I shall spend some of today playing about with backscene possibilities behind Spital Bridge. The problem seems to be that putting one in somewhere results in unwanted deep shadows somewhere else. Shall we have another look at that little Midland 3F? I won't insult it, as I don't wish to upset Clive again. Here it is resting. and now joining the ECML briefly before returning to the Midland side. I must say these Midland/LMS coaches are rather attractive. 26

With a neat and functional looking Deeley/Fowler development of the wonderful Johnson 0-6-0 hauling some lovely Reid designed coaches, what can be better? Except of course a Cravens, Derby and BRCW consist DMU train.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 14, 2019 The heavens opened just after my morning post, and remained open all day, no light, so no photography, and very little done. Miserable. At PN, Grantham has turned out 60050 to take the 7.30 from there to London. This view now becomes feasible, and strikes me as rather pleasant. 26
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted August 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 15, 2019 Golf at Market Rasen today, which is where chasing little white balls began a very long time ago. I always enjoy going back there, and it seems it isn't going to rain. Our photographer seems to have become fixated on 60050, as we have two more shots this morning, and it hasn't even reached the station yet. Much less hassle shopping these now.
