I first encountered pizza in the late 1960s, an American schoolfriend (in Cambridge, his parents over on some sort of academic secondment) served it for tea. I took it to be some sort of American-style Welsh Rarebit and quite enjoyed it, although I wasn't able to explain to my mother what it consisted of. 1
FarrMan
Piece up here refers to a packed lunch, and so a piece hut would be where you would eat your piece, i.e. your lunch. So perhaps the photo was of the piece hut! Lloyd 1
stewartingram
Nah, round Peterboro (or at least in the Fens) that would be dockey. Stewart 1
FarrMan
Stewart It is a long time ago now, but when I lived in Peterborough, I never heard it called a dockey. Lloyd

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 16, 2019 It was a game of two halves, guv. First nine awful, second nine, really good. I have no idea what changed. Let us gaze upon Minoru looming large under the roof. Then comes a very hopeful effort........ too hopeful, I think. Concentrate on the first one please.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 17, 2019 Under the roof again this morning. First up is another view of Minoru, but this time from Platform 2. Then an angle without trains.

What's not to like? Mr Titileist is going to get another bashing later. Next train on the Up is from Harrogate. Its the shortest formation among West Riding trains, only eight cars, no catering. All MK1s, so I won't do a photo spread. The loco is KX A3 Minoru. What else do I have to show you? Oh, yes , a hut. Is that the Jabber Hut? RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 18, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 18, 2019 Here we are again, after last night's hiccup. One more shot of Minoru was to have been your first image, as it waited for the signal to depart. Things have moved on at the North end. 62666 has brought in the stock of the 5.03 Grimsby, and the last M&GN service to have crawled all the way from Yarmouth is on its way into Platform 2, Minoru having now departed.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 18, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 18, 2019 Now we come to another first, as the Scotch goods swings under Crescent Bridge, but for the first time does so on the Down slow. Silver Fox waits in the Up bay. 60003 has the job yet again, and we can watch its progress towards signals before Spital Bridge. There it will halt, as something more important is approaching on the main.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 19, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 19, 2019 More lovely sunshine to enjoy later, after quick photos before shopping. We now have another March B17 to look at, this one in the carriage siding, waiting to bring out the stock for the 5.13 departure to its home town. Then the reason for the demotion of the Scotch goods appears, Abbotsford at the head of the West Riding. A wholly unadulterated shot, no cropping or photoshopping at all. It shows the bulk of the bridge very well too. 28
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 19, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 19, 2019 We continue to follow the West Riding, as it first passes the waiting A4.... and then a short while later, the B17 in the carriage siding and the D11 in the bay. 25
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 19, 2019 Such excellent photo’s, Gilbert, as always. In the second one I’m just a little concerned by what appears, at least at first sight, to be a potential SPAD. I hope I’m wrong, and that things are maybe not quite what they appear to be. Please keep the excellent photo’s coming. Best regards, Rob.

Please keep the excellent photo’s coming. Best regards, Rob. It is one of the delights of the signalling at this end of the station, Rob. The signal on the extreme left is the Down main starter, and that is correctly off. The one that is at danger governs the bay in which the D11 is sitting. The outer home and distant for the A1 are still off scene to the north. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 20, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 20, 2019 Coming up is a painful post. Crammed into a corner while crouched under a bookcase, contorted so as to see the viewfinder and still keep myself out of shot, and dealing with sun that kept popping in and out every few seconds, it's a wonder this got done at all. I realise a lot of you like this view, but now you know why you don't get it very often. The next one is an easier option for me, but still a pig to photoshop. The bent signal is on its way out before too long. Watch this space for details 29 1
