RMweb Premium njee20 Posted July 23 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 23 First 3 are facts. Forth is speculation. Maybe Norris would have overtaken on the fresher tyres. He comfortably put time into Piastri after the stops. 2

But as it is now things are too close. The fastest car each weekend appears to be different. We've had 7 different winners now but of them only one has won multiple times. Don't think too far ahead. He has won 1 race in his entire career, as has Piastri. Either one would need to win consistently, ideally with the other behind them & Ferraris/Mercedes also consistently in the podium places in order to claw back Verstappen's lead. As for Verstappen he needs to score solid points & grab the odd win, for which opportunities will be there, but maybe not every race like he is used to. What Verstappen does not need is any DNFs. He did his best to screw up his own race in Hungary by crashing into Hamilton. He was 4th & may have had a better chance to pass, but gambled it & dropped to 5th. He was lucky though; he could easily have crashed out. Now he no longer has a car which can breeze past others & ease away, he will be stuck with other cars around him, so DNFs are very possible. 2

Exactly, which is why I said McLaren ought to concentrate on the Manufacturers Championship. The gap between Crashappen and Lando is too large when the other teams are also on a resurgence. The McLaren isn't the fastest car every weekend, just the same as the Red Bull. What McLaren and the other teams have that Red Bull seemingly doesn't is two Drivers able to take points. The thing is, will Perez pull himself out of his funk? That we don't know! 2 1

Now the tables turned Max couldn’t overhaul them and struggled to get past Lewis! Lando doesn’t do the shoulders out at all costs so may not have the ‘killer instinct’ to the degree of Max but even without it he’s right up there and still improving. Lando may not be quite as natural as Lewis or Max but he’s got the work ethic to make up the difference and deals with pressure better than Max 😉 Lando shows more sportsmanship than several of the greats. 5

Somebody has actually told Max what to do? I thought the team constantly told him how great he is? I still think back to the US GP in 2017 when he passed Kimi by cutting a corner: "great move Max" was the response from his team. Er no. He cut the corner, gained a place by going off track. How wrong can that be? The stewards had no choice but to penalise him for that one.

Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Well. no surprise given the performance of the team recently. They've never even remotely threatened to repeat their win in Hungary of 2021. There are unsubstantiated (but possibly well-informed) rumours that Renault have now scrapped their 2026 engine programme and the team will become a Mercedes customer. A further rumour is that Andretti will then buy the team and use the Merc engines only until the new GM engine becomes available from 2028. didcot
Just watching the press conference. Famin looks like moving higher up in the Alpine food chain. The proposal seem to be to move the F1 engine personnel to the Alpine car brand and become a customer for F1 engines. Rumour has it Mercedes. woodenhead
So when Vertstappen cannot get pole due to penalties, Perez is right up there vying for it. Almost like they want him up front this weekend to hold up the others so Verstappen can do some diving overtaking....... Jo Has been known to on this track, they’ve picked this race on purpose to pick up the penalties. And still amazing it’s also the week Perez puts together a decent qualifying session and is on the front of the grid. 3 1
RMweb Premium Steadfast Posted July 27 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27 A little crumb of comfort, just read McLaren have set their cars up for a low downforce dry race which the forecast is predicting. Jo
Gareth Collier
From what various teams were saying I don't think the grid will necessarily reflect the race. The race is supposed to be dry so some teams set their cars up for the dry at the expense of being fast in qualifying whilst others had a set up leaning more towards the wet which won't help in the dry. 2
