This probably came in useful when filming "A Mind to Kill" - the English and Welsh versions of episodes were reputed to have been filmed one version immediately after the other. I must admit that I liked the dry humour in the English versions which found their way onto Channel 5 the other decade.

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted March 19 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19 Cardiff calling, Cardiff calling. News of a late substitution has arrived st Chateau Sheep. Chris H, aka @Gilbert wasn't happy with certain aspects of Timmy's Bottom and rather than present something which in his eyes wasn't quite up to scratch, he's bringing Plopper Street Sidings along instead. Full details to follow. OP updated. I thank ewe. 3 2 1 1

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted March 31 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31 Morning all, A bit later than anticipated, here's the next featurette. A late substitution from @Gilbert, Cropper street brings a bit of diseasalisation to this year's SWAG. To quote Chris H, "Cropper Street is a small 00 scale shunting layout based on a slightly enhanced “Inglenook” or shunting twig design and has been built using Peco Code 75 track. The baseboards are a laser cut kit from Scale Model Scenery and can be stored in a 77L “Really Useful Box”. It is loosely based in the 1960s and 1970s and is located on the BR London Midland Region. The scenery and details have been inspired by urban landscapes around the railways in Liverpool. The real “Cropper Street” was a road next to Liverpool Central station. " I'm sure if you have any questions regarding DCC, Chris and Eric will be able to answer them. They ( and Bill who is cup tied SWAG week end ) certainly set me up with faultless advice. Oh and don't forget that Chris is a dab hand at weathering and I'm sure Plopper Street will have some fine examples of his craft on display. Cropper Street is scheduled to feature in Railway Modeller magazine in May 2024.
RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted March 31 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 31 Sticking with the diseasal theme, next up is @bcnPete 's nod to Kyle of Lochalsh in 2mm finescale. Pete describes Kylie thus, "Kyle of Lochalsh was originally built in Barcelona, Spain as a micro layout capable of being transported via box-files. It was first exhibited in 2010 at the Burgess Hill Model Railway Club annual exhibition having being flown in by hand luggage the day before. The intention was to try and capture an extract of Kyle of Lochalsh through the inclusion of the bridge, ramp, station and quayside. The layout era begins late 70’s to capture the overlap between class 24’s and class 26’s with the gradual replacement by class 37/4’s. The rolling stock modelled, all being visitors to Kyle, are primarily ready to run models, which have been detailed and the wheels reprofiled to 2mmFS standards. Kylie was featured in the December 2015 Model Rail magazine. Here are a selection of photos by Chris Nevard to whet your appetite. 18 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted March 31 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 31 Sticking with the 2mm finescale theme, we turn to the demos and of course SWAG once again welcomes @queensquare. Jerry continues to champion all things 2mm finescale and in particular the dear old S&DJR in all it's pre 1930 Prussian Blue finery and I have no doubt that his recreation is one of, if not THE, seminal models of this much missed and truly unique railway. Frankly, I've no idea what he's bringing along but by plundering Jerry's images I can hopefully provide a taster. I'm constantly surprised by how he creates these teeny tiny masterpieces* and each time I see them, my desire to return to modelling the S&DJR resurfaces........... * * * The engine sheds, Midland and S&DJR are NOT teeny tiny but in my humble opinion, they are masterpieces. 17
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted March 31 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31 (edited) And going the other scale size way, we welcome @Gedward to the demo team. Working in 7mm, George will be on hand to discuss and enlighten visitors on his scenic techniques, displayed so very well in his Bodmin Moor diorama. It's heartening to see George's modelling is back in the groove after an enforced hiatus and his latest efforts hint at what is on the cards. A few of George's own images. RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted March 31 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 31 (edited) Another demo today. Visitors to last year's SWAG were treated to @mullie giving an insight into how he obtains his, in my opinion, quite unique colour pallette using readily available artists materials due to a lack of model shops in Martyn's area. He's no slouch with the soldering iron as well. His demo last year was supported by Upbech Quay. This year, Martyn brings along Upbech St. Mary. Now, technically, this is a return visit to SWAG, St Mary having last been seen albeit virtually in 2020. So, another chance to see a further piece of Martyn's Upbech magnum opus all of which set out to faithfully capture the East Anglian scene of the 1950s and 1960s. See for yourself. Martyn's modelling was one of the inspirations behind me looking at East Anglia and led to the building of EWE. No doubt though, Martyn will have other bits and bobs with him. Perhaps you too will be so inspired. Which is why I believe that's exactly the raison d'etre behind SWAG. Edited March 31 by NHY 581 19

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted April 1 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1 (edited) BRING AND BUY. And whilst we are on the subject of buying and selling, if you are looking to pop things into the infamous SWAG Bazaar for the delectation of others, then ( ideally) you need to download and fill in a form and bring it with you to accompany your previously enjoyed items of desire. THE FORM. SWAG2024 Bring and Buy Form-Extremly Very Final Form Rev3.docx Please download and populate. You MUST include your contact details, particularly your phone number as post event, I'll be ringing you to obtain your bank details and transfer the monies across to you. I anticipate that will be at least the weekend after once all available funds have dropped into the account. If anyone has a drama downloading the above form, then email me on... rob.gunstone@hotmail.co.uk and I will attach a copy by return. And last but certainly NOT least, we are once again indebted to Aidan @Culmhead and Godfrey @Godfrey Glyn or as we prefer to call them The Special Retailing Executive ( a little known branch of Universal Exports ), for their continuing support and guidance without whom the workings and administration of the Bring and Buy would be an awful lot trickier. Unfortunately, Aidan has been deployed overseas and will miss the day but I'm sure we will ensure he is kept up to date with the day's developments as they unfold. Rob.
