Clagmeister
Scott, Thanks for that what a great vid and kind words about Caolisport. 37404 had by then lost her proper name and been named after a place in a TV show:angry: . Full IC rake, must have been summer because it wasn't very often FW got 3 sleepers. When I get to 1989 I will add some motor rail vans as I have the space to model it! Anyway cheerio Claggy PS Scott, nice avatar!
MRDBLUE17
Hi Claggy, Those night shots are great on your layout it really is coming on well. The weathering on the 37's looks a treat and adds so much to the scene as well. Nice to see the updates. Thanks, Mark
Clagmeister
Thanks MrD Blue I think some of my stock would look quite nice on your layout. Tomorrow Saturday 15th February 1986 is going to be quite interesting. First chance for me to run the SO 'Hebrides' day time London or Bristol train with correct stock formation. Air Con mK2s and Rest Buff. What do you think? If Caolisport had been built do you think the extra traffic would have warranted upgrading of the WHL route to allow 47's. I like the idea of my 'Clansman' esq 'Hebrides' train to be 47 hauled. Problem is I'd have to find another diagram to keep traction knowledge up as a SO train wouldn't be enough. Also I think a Caolisport-Bristol sounds more romantic than Caolisport-London what do you think? Also for Saturday 5025 is booked to arrive from Edinburgh with the 'Paps of Jura' SRPS railtour. Naturally I'll try and get some shots;) cheerio Claggy
MRDBLUE17
Hi Claggy, I say run a 47 as I have just added an EWS liveried one to my Rannoch fleet for the heavy paper traffic from Corpach now in VGA vans and it sounds good too! The route knowledge is simple as they will have had a driver change in the Glasgow area who will already have the route knowledge! I agree your blue weathered stock would look nice running on my layout, I don't have anything Scottish from the that era so unless you and Dave come up North with some of yours to run I will have to stick to post 2000. Thanks, Mark
definate maybe
Ive been reading the RMWeb forum for many years but for reasons unknown rarely comment (something Im in the process of changing) This layout is one of the ones I hope has been updated whenever I come on the site as I cant wait to see it evolve further. The scottish highlands have long been a highlight for me, which started of with the great Kyle of Tongue model. Mountains, wide open spaces, the sea and a speedlink or enterprise freight is a great combination IMO.
br-nse-fan
I have to agree with the sentiments already posted in this fine thread! The layout is a sight to behold! Not my modelling region, but it oozes with atmosphere and have really enjoyed seeing the progression in the short time that I've been a member here. Really like the ferry, not something I think I've ever seen on another model railway! Keep up the great work!
Clagmeister
Thanks chaps. Will keep the pics coming if I can. Light still a major issue in my loft. I'm going to do a day in the life for Saturday 15th February. Phots from around Caolisport of all the days workings, diagrams etc. It may take a few days because I run a rigid half speed clock. Its just gone 6am up there so I'll go and see whats happening. Not much first train not due til 0645. cheerio Claggy
Clagmeister
Here goes. 0500-0835 0545 A couple of the early turn fitters exchange a few words whilst 20226, 37410 and 37407 await their turns of duty. The 20 won't turn a wheel today whilst 37410 will work the 0700 to Glasgow Queen St and 37407 works 7K25 consisting of empty chemical tanks to Mossend. 0705 37410 slows to collect the token for Lochgilphead from the signaller with the 0700 Glasgow Queen St train. 0730 37404 has landed on the stabling point working in light engine 0Z37 in lieu of a caped Saturday morning engineers train. 0820 37407 awaits the road with 7K25 from Caolisport New - Mossend empty chem tanks. It will get the road once the sleeper has arrived. 0832 37406 has just arrived in platform 1 with the sleeper from London. An on time arrival means any passengers for Islay won't miss the ferry. 0848 37425 (not seen earlier arriving from Cambletown) waits to work the 0850 back to Cambletown. Luckily the sleeper was right time meaning the Cambletown men will get a decent finish. The stock in CS2 is part of the stock to form the Hebrides SO train to London. The remainder comes from the standard coaches on the sleeper. Hope you like, I'll do 0900-1300 some other day. Claggy PS IF ANYONE CAN SPOT THE DELIBERATE MISTAKE ON THE PIC OF 37410 LEAVING GETS A PAT ON THE BACK:lol:

P.C.M
Hi Claggy, Nice set of pics, I've not done any night shots of Llanbourne I might have to give it a go. Has the wrong signal been pulled off? If it's not that, is the Buffet closed, because I am hungry. Cheers Peter.
Clagmeister
Well done Peter you win a BR Burger from the buffet:lol: . Yes the dozy signlaman has pulled off for Cambletown not Glasgow. I think Llanbourne would look great under floodlights! cheerio Claggy
Clagmeister
Hello again. 0920-1005 Having waited for the stock to be cleaned and for the Caolisport shunt crew to get a brew 37406 set about the task of shunting and splitting the sleeper stock and forming the Hebrides stock in platform 2. This is a double run Eastfiled diagram starting with the Caolisport sleeper, 1100 SO to Queen St and 1615 return. Final part is Sunday sleeper working back to Queen St. 0923 Seen here passing the small Caolisport Engineers yard whilst running round about. 0936 Caught again drawing the sleeper stock out towards Achahoish Jnc between the stabling point and New Yard. This is why its still February 1986 and I've been operating Caolisport for 12 months now:blink: having started 1st Jan 1986. cheerio Claggy

kevpeo
With all these extra ''West Highland'' branches we've all built surely Eastfield is going to need more 37/4's. 37 432 to 450 anybody, think of the names we could invent! Clagmeister
Talking of depots! Something amazing happened at Caolisport stabling point today at around 1015am. Suddenly the old loc shed has returned! This is my take on the images from a scruffy Inverness depot in the late 1980's. It is little used these days apart from the odd wagon and loco repair. It is mainly used for the fitters to work on their cars out of the Highland rain. The roller shutter doors fitted in 1978 are looking very tired now. 37404 ticks happily away in front of the old shed February 1986. cheerio Claggy
Clagmeister
Hi its me again and its still am on Saturday 15th February 1986. 1047 and 37409 arrives with 0803 from Glasgow Queen St Having put the train together and awaited the arrival of the 1050 406 gets the 'Hebrides' away at 1102 passing the near empty New Yard. 1134 Having crossed the Hebrides at lochgilphead 5025 gives up the token at Achahoish Jnc whilst bringing in the 'Paps of Jura' SRPS railtour from Edinburgh. 5025 stands on the blocks at Caolisport Later 5025 stands on the Caolisport stabling point whilst her support crew attend her every need and the tanker replenishes the water. cheerio yet again it might be PM next time! SteveBedding
Claggy This is an absolute joy to follow . The detail of both the scenery and the rolling stock make it an impressive layout with a stunning visual impact, but what is making it so special is the narrative describing the movements... I wouldn't know if you were 'working' a real timetable or not, but the way 'story' is sequenced it gives it a real credibility and puts this forward as spectacular model :clapping_mini: . Clagmeister
Thanks Steve, If only you knew how strict the operation is on Caolisport. As I have said a few time through this thread, I'm on a permanent half speed clock and I don't allow myself any deviation whatsoever. I have a timetable, loco diagrams, traincrew diagrams. In addition I have a built in fault/ops problem system using 20 side dice. All of the traffic has a place and everything has its place. I actually find the boring monotony of the railway very interesting! 37/4s would have run in and out and in and out of Oban or where ever and after a few days even the real thing would get very boring. I work on the real railway and the thing you notice is that every day is almost the same as the last. Same engines, same stock same time. cheerio Claggy
Clagmeister
Well its still Saturday 15th February 1986! 1210-1305 1215 37425 has arrived from Cambletwon again and 37409 waits to depart with 1220 to Glasgow Queen St. Caolisport is unusually busy with the 2 service trains, sleeper stock and the Paps of Jura charter stock all in the station. 1300 425 has left Caolisport with 1255 to Cambletown to make its 2nd trip down the branch of the day. It is caught here from Camusfearna beach and occupation crossing. cheerio again Claggy
sixteen 12by 10s
Hi Claggy Just catching up on things, after having the post holiday blues (known in the house as “Skyealitusâ€). Reading at the top of the page, I discover the mentioning of, such things as, class 47s on the west highland in the 1980's. Surely this will have the EE bashers crying at Inveraray , you would have them all scarparing back to the George for more refreshments, a brush type four on the next train!, never. (I am resisting the temptation to use derogatory names for the said locos). Can I suggest allocating a pair of 37s or a 37 and a 20, that would be much more expectable. Looking at it, if the train originated at Bristol, it would shift a Bath Road 47 away from any west of England class 50 diagrams. Gary
Scott
Will the sprinters be arriving in "a few years?"
P.C.M
Hi Claggy, Great pics, I like the loco shed.B) How do you turn the kettle? Also interested to see what turns up on the Bristol train as Gary said lets hope it's not a Bath Road Duff. surely this would be a good day to change the pilot loco 20+37 or 26+34 Hellfire. Cheers Peter.
sixteen 12by 10s
Once upon a time in 1990, stood on the platform at Dunblane, in the rain, waiting for the Down internal sleeper to Inverness, when around the corner comes 47835 Bath Roads pet. My mates comments were “I ant doing no twank (twin tank, got it?) in Scotlandâ€. The resulting move, was a wait of nearly 2 hours for a sprinter to Aberdeen for 37101 to Inverness, an arrival in stile!. Gary
