RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) 4 examples until later 1963 and 3 until September 1964. Does anyone have any knowledge of their duties please? Main interest would be appearances at Seaton Junction I have a couple of pics showing a U shunting the Dairy Sidings at Seaton Junction, probably 63/4 and that's it! Without hours of checking old notes, I am sure I saw one or two on 72A and vaguely possible a sighting at Central in '63? I'm aware of the brief use of the U1s at 72A in Summer 1961; my use of a U1 thus, is for the Exmouth/Sidmouth Cleethorpes from Sidmouth Junction to Templecombe and visa versa. Many thanks, Phil Edited December 5, 2023 by Mallard60022
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2023 I can't remember where these came from, but I have Engine Workings from June 1962 UFN, showing the Yeovil U class workings. Nothing at Seaton Jn though, they seemed to work east, and south Just one diagram on Saturdays 2
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 5, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 Much appreciated. I have no film evidence and hardly any book pics of Us working west of Yeovil. This is my only one IIRC?
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 5, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 I think this is 31637 on the same day! That, as far as I can tell, is shunting the Seaton to Waterloo Coaches making a Summer Saturday morning Up Train, with a Spam (L.E. from 72A?) on the front? 5 more (from Lyme R) would be added at Axminster. It is possible that the Loco actually brought that lot (5 Coaches) up from Seaton as Us were permitted down the Branch and I am sure that somewhere I have seen a Mogul (could have been a U) sitting at S.J. Platform 3 on a Seaton Train. Alternatively it could just be adding Coaches to an Up rom Exeter. I'd have to look at my TT to check.
pH
31792 through Axminster in the afternoon of August 5 1963. Sorry, my notebook is long gone, I don’t know what the working was - I don’t even know if it was up or down. Edited December 5, 2023 by pH

KeithMacdonald
BRDatabase lists a few U's allocated to Yeovil Town 1791 to 1975 in 1948 (SR) 31634, 31616, 31636 in 1949 31793, 31794 in 1950 and others through to 1959 In the later years, reallocated mostly from Guildford and Eastleigh. https://www.brdatabase.info/sites.php?page=depots&subpage=locos&id=623 Edit: it looks like most of the later ones (allocated 1958/9) were at Yeovil until withdrawn on 1964.
