Looking at the Bachmann website today, it says the 04 is due for release in Oct/Nov as will their Cravens DMU and 03 shunter. Looks like another long wait then chaps..........

The website now says June/July for the 04, and July/August for the A2. In fact, just about everything seems to have moved back significantly. Looks like the production problems haven't been solved yet?

Oh those jokers at Bachmann have changed the web site again. Now the 04 is just out of stock. I have seen on one of the traders web sites it is to be March.

I think they are just trying to keep us on our toes!

Go on, I'll bite. Is this a photo of the model and is it imminent for release or something?

It has a different number on its smokebox to its cabside (but I figure on the other side it must be 63601 as per the smokebox number).

It looks extremely accurate and very handsome in the MR pic. Lovely stuff - perfect for my layout too! :D Thank you Bachmann! :)

There's a very nice pre-production sample picture on Hatton's website:

And I also notice that the LNER version's running number has been changed to 6190 (and not 3693 as first advertised), which is very good news for pre-war LNER folks like me. This has cheered me up greatly. biggrin.gif

James.

These are going to look great wheezing around a layout with a long good train in tow, did many make their way onto Western region rails?

The GWR ended up aquiring 100 of them after the first world war, getting 20 in 1919 numbering them 3000 - 3019 and a further 80 in 1925 numbering them 3020 - 3099.

If a bit of factory weathering comes in at £145.00, I'm wondering if this is for those who just have to be first in the queue.

I would have expected the standard shop price to be in the region of £99.00. If it comes in at around £125.00 to £145, it could be a case of "How much do these guys want obscure locos and how much are they prepared to pay for this gamble?"

If the price is up to the 125 mark that is OK with me as the price across the board is still reasonable when converted into the Aussie.

I just hope that Bachmann is do what I need to at work and that is to under promise and over deliver. IE I would like one for my birthday in late May ;) ! Though I think the timing is about right if I recall it was about 3 months from the decorated version of the 3MT to the release into the shops! :(

I have paid about $200 Aussie for a lot of loco's over the years as this has been any where from 35p to the AUD to the now 60p!

I would just like it all to come more quickly though it won't!

Re: 34theletterbetween B&D "Lightly Swindonised, the GWR ran examples of the 100 it eventually purchased from 1919 until the end of it's existence, the last examples operating on WR until 1957"

To expand a little, I quote from Wikipedia :

The GWR borrowed several ROD 2-8-0s during the First World War but these were returned to the government after the end of the war. In 1919, GWR bought 20 virtually new RODs, and numbered them 3000-19. A further 84 were hired in July 1919, and were numbered 3020-99 and 6000-3, but these were returned in October 1922. In 1925, the GWR bought 80 engines (including some previously hired) and numbered them 3020-99.

In 1926/7 the GWR sorted their RODs into two batches. The original 3000-19 and 3020-49 were considered good engines and given proper overhaul and Swindon fittings, including top feed and brass safety valve casing. The remainder were renumbered 3050-3099, given a light overhaul and then ran until they failed, when they were withdrawn — all were gone by 1930. There was some swapping of numbers, so that engines in better condition were given the lower numbers. [Tenders from withdrawn RODs were given to some Aberdare class 2-6-0s and 2251 class 0-6-0s]

The GWR borrowed 30 Class O4 from the LNER in 1940 but returned them between 1941 and 1943. Forty-six of the RODs entered British Railways service in 1948. Five locomotives (numbers 3011, 3015, 3024, 3036 and 3041) were still in service in 1957.

Reading today's (27th April) MREmag. The models appear to be in production. This does bode well to be delivered in the June/ July period. It would still be nicer to have them early :) But as they say it is better to under promise and over deliver rather than the other way round.

My hope is they will be out ready for the end of May :D :D

Hi Doug,

I think you will be waiting till June - July for the Model. So will be a late b'day present. As my b'day is middle of May I am in the same boat or train in this case. But I don't mind as I have a few other kit items to buy, such as a couple of coach kits. I'm selling the old Hornby teak coaches and replacing them with some new ones, but have to make up the train with Kirk kits (BG, CK composite and a Hornby or Kirk TK 3rd). I already have the BG.

Looking forward to the O4 and A2 and the B17 in Dec-Jan. Though I might wait till I visit the UK in April-May next year to get a Hornby LNER B17.

I have July down as visiting you at BRMA meeting. See you then.

Mark

A June/July release, just in time for my birthday I hope Hornby's GWR 2-8-0s aren't released around then as well or things could get interesting. Still Gresley Was Right.
