RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted October 26, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 26, 2023 Progressing with bits of jobs, the platform surfaces are mostly cut out and the walls also cut ready, these will need to be painted and fitted then the ballast laid up to it. The structure behind the retaining wall between the beck and goods yard has been fitted, waiting for some stone to arrive for the wall, like the platform walls it needs to go in before any work on the beck can be done. A recess for the signal cabin has been made from plastic strip so it can be removed and a couple of bits of wood for a low wall behind it where it's been cut into the slope of the field.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted October 28, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 28, 2023 NER cement coping, 4" x 3". Should be slightly 'chevron' shaped but it's only an inch or so... 9
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted November 2, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 2, 2023 Making progress on the platform walls and surfaces, the copings are on and painted on the up platform (towards Helmsley) and the platform surface has been cut out so the station building can sit in it. The retaining wall around the goods yard has been fitted (Slaters 7mm cotswold stone) and the river bank started to be built up to it.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted November 6, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 6, 2023 Bit of progress over the weekend, the 'big field' at the north end of the layout has been built up. There's a small footbridge next to where the road crosses the beck, stone piers fitted and coffee stirrer planks of course, they will be left off until the water is finished. Ratio gate to get an idea what the yard entrance will look like. Probably wont use this one and it certainly won't have a small gate next to it. NER yard entrance gates were very much like level crossing gates, possibly a bit lighter.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted November 8, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 8, 2023 Ballasting is going well, board 4 is done and board 3 is about 2/3 there. Its a bit chilly out in the shed so I've had the bring board 3 in the house to dry, the bit I did last night is still wet. Mrs WF hasn't noticed it as she's watching the Robbie Williams documentary... 19

RMweb Premium MarkC Posted November 11, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 11, 2023 This is all great stuff - coming along really well. I've driven the road between Stokesley & Helmsley through Chop Gate a few times. It's a nice route, for sure, but I can't help but think that this line would have had some fearsome gradients, tunnels notwithstanding? Mark Yes, I don't think it would have been the easiest line to build, getting out of the top of the dale down clay Bank would have been a challenge. They overcame worse though.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted November 17, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2023 No, the stonework is Slaters 0411 7mm 'Cotswold Stone', which is the smaller of their 2 rough faced stone.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted November 19, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 19, 2023 And now for a bit of paint. Rails and chairs have been given a coat of Vallejo 'red leather'. This all looks a bit bright and harsh! When this is dry or there abouts the whole lot is sprayed with a very thin coat, 50/50 paint/water, of railmatch 'sleeper grime' with about 5% black added. This tones down and softens it all nicely. There's still a bit to do but it gives a good basic track colour. 24 1
RMweb Premium Old Gringo Posted November 19, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 19, 2023 Looking great, Paul. Your careful application of that W.S. Fine ballast and the weathering has made a superb job of this section. Waiting to see how you tackle those turnouts next. Before you go too far with that Midland 8-ton wagon, please can I point out that the bottom of the headstocks should be at the same level as the bottom of the solebars, per this picture I did for my MRJ 286 article (and by D299 topic passim). On the left is what happens if you push the headstock up against the floor; on the right is what it should look like. You do end up with the floor sitting about 0.8 mm to high, i.e. the interior depth a bit shallow, but that's only a problem id modelling an empty wagon. 1
