RMweb Premium melmerby Posted September 17, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 17, 2023 Hi all I don't know whether this has cropped up before but is there a source of spares for Bachmann USA products in the UK? Β I have just purchased my first US outline loco, (Second hand H0 Spectrum Dash 8) and I would like to get some small plastic bits for the body. The main bodyshell is in reasonable condition but the front and rear handrails have been bent back against the body through being in the wrong foam insert in it's box, I'm also missing one brake cylinder but I could probably make a repacement for that out of plastic rod. long island jack
you'll be lucky to get Spectrum spares, unless some one split a no runner for spares, on Ebay, there's this company states side https://ppw-aline.com/collections/locomotive-handrail-sets/products/h-112-Bachmann-spectrum-8-40c-handrail-set-applicable-roads-up-c-nw-cr-csx-ns
298
Could the handrails be straightened by putting them through a thermal cycle?Β Β As Ray has outlined, it might be easier to upgrade than find the OEM parts, although I have used filed down Athearn parts before from the spares box.

Β Didn't really expect much available in the UK. Β It's actually quite old but mechanically it seems to be OK, no sign of Mazak rot, but it's a pre DCC ready version that someone had converted with a wired in very old Lenz decoder and some dodgy wiring held in place with gaffer tape. I will be giving it a service and a full rewire with a better decoder.
mikjd
I've ordered direct from Bachmann in the US previously, with success. If you register with them you get periodic offers by email. https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=

ISTR itβs now around the Β£25 mark to the UK when previously it was just about a fiver. When itβs just a few spare parts costing Β£15-Β£20 itβs silly. Something to do with changes to international postage rates to deter people ordering so much from China. Yeah, thatβs worked, not. Β Bob
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 28, 2023 The huge hike in international postage has all but killed off a lot of overseas model railway parts and equipment sales practically overnight.Β

Gave Anglo American a try Β Ordered 5 freight cars Three RTR and two Blueprint Kits, earlier this week They arrived today, very well wrapped and packed. All are in their boxes, one of the kits wasn't even open, the other was but everything is there. No noticeable damage on anything, nothing obviously playworn, so I'm a happy customer. Β Thanks for the heads up. Β
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted October 27, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2023 It's all new to me so it's all learning. How many RTR freight cars have plastic wheels as standard? I've noticed that the 12 freight cars I have bought so far have a mixture. Β 1) Plastic axle, metal wheels 2) Metal axle, plastic wheels 3) Metal axle, metal wheels with plastic bushes. Β Also seems to be a mixture of wide tires & narrow tires.
