RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted September 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 16, 2023 (edited) This all started from a conversation I had with @NHY581 AKA Sheep Bloke. He suggested the idea of producing a small layout that encapsulates my style and methods of modelling and painting backscenes. And to show it at the next SWAG meeting. A relative newcomer to 7mm, my interest is in scratch building scenery and structures. Bodmin Moor, a small diorama set in Cornwall, was designed for two reasons. First to be an easily transportable exhibition piece. And secondly, wanting to tackle something manageable, to get a feel for working in a much larger scale before embarking on a huge layout. RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted October 5, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 5, 2023 These last couple of weeks I've been building the shadow box. Quite pleased with the result as it all breaks down using wing nuts and magnets. And then the totem arrived in the post yesterday to finish it all off. Just about to get going on the foreground now and will probably leave the back scene till last. 19 1

During those frustrating nine months in Minehead waiting to complete on my house, I spent a great deal of time planning how to proceed with Bodmin Moor and Bovey Quay. So when I did finally move in July, I was able to hit the ground running. So that time wasn't wasted as I was always virtually modelling. 😀

I’m always planning my next move but time is tight for modelling so I do bits and pieces every now and then.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 8, 2023 Open moorland is eerie in inclement weather. For several decades there have been 'sightings' of a large cat nicknamed the Beast of Bodmin Moor. Photos and vids have been posted online. A hint of such a maybe-mythical creature might not spoil the main effect? 3

And personally, I'm not a big fan of people and animals on a layout, apart from the footplate crew that is. Edited January 7 by Gedward
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted November 18, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 18, 2023 A quick update on the diorama that is Bodmin Moor. Pleased to say we're almost there now, am already thinking about Bovey Quay. 18 10

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted November 22, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 22, 2023 (edited) A few months ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Which after several tests, turned out to be quite an aggressive type. Fortunately I was fast tracked for a RALP, prostatectomy this Monday. Like others have already said, I've found RMweb to be a very warm and friendly and helpful place. I look forward to my morning fix, my afternoon fix and many other times in between. Obviously, feeling a bit out of it right now, as it's only been two days since surgery. But I'm hoping to be able to get back to finishing Bodmin Moor soon enough. Mind you, there's still a few months till SWAG. Edited November 25, 2023 by Gedward 2
Gypsy
All the best. I had the same prognosis/surgery in 2016 in my (very) late 40s. Not going to pretend its all been plain sailing but I'm mobile, at least as fit as I was before and it beats the hell out of the alternative. Stick with it and remember the last bit!!!
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted November 22, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 22, 2023 Horrid, horrid news - and inevitably you will feel rubbish and demotivated so soon after invasive surgery. But survival rates are really excellent, you have clearly been taken seriously by the medics and the best has been done. No-one in this thread is in any doubt about your huge talents, and we look forward to you recovering, including your mojo, so we can relish the output you so often supply. RMweb and Bodmin Moor need you! 1 3 1

Halvarras
I was diagnosed exactly 5 years ago, ruined the run-up to my retirement. In my case it turned out to be non-aggressive and I've been on Active Surveillance since then - another of my six-monthly crossed-finger moments is upon me. I add my best wishes to everyone else's, and if you get any bad days during your recovery look for the better days beyond them - you'll reach them sooner than you think. Or just jump on here for a chat 😁!
The Bandit
Hope you are feeling better soon. I was diagnosed 2 months into my retirement and I know what a shock it is. Modelling wise, may I say that your work is utterly stunning! 1
RMweb Premium AdeMoore Posted November 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 22, 2023 I can only echo the above sentiments. All the best George and have a speedy 100% recovery. Also the modelling skill on display here is stunning.

Especially when that damn catheter was removed last Wednesday. So today sees the start of the backscene painting, as that's not too strenuous. And besides, if I don't start creating something soon, I'll go crazy. 2 3
