Sorry for the massive photodump in multiple posts but its the only way to show the work progress i've had on the layout since the last update.
I am really happy with how it looks, and I am working on a small project which will hopefully enhance the operation of the layout.

I've been busy with work, and bad weather has stopped me getting the facia started. I've had the bits and pieces for a week.

I have used a 3.6mm piece of ply I got from a wickes last week, I cut down the top first to roughly (over estimated deliberately) to where I needed it, and then with a decent pencil I marked out where the cutout would be, including the landform.

There is a bit of fine fettling to do, but that can be done in situe as well as removing it, as its only temporarily held on with some small clamps to get the photos.

I have base coated/sealed the facia with a white household paint, and when I get chance i'll get a black paint which I can use for the main coat of paint, a tester pot will be fine for this.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've spent the last 3 mornings in the lovely British winter anywhere between -3 and 3 degrees, building some legs for the layout.
I have always intended on this being an exhibition layout, but also it means I can free up my modelling desk.

I have used 38x63mm CLS timber, and made a Z shape which is bolted through the layout itself.
The space under the legs at the bottom has a shelf, (not pictured) made from 18x44mm timber and a 9mm ply top, this adds support, but there is still lateral movement so I am (when able to) use some more of the 18x44mm timber and make a front crossbrace that goes diagonally to reduce the lateral "wobble".

I have used adjustable feet on the bottom of the timbers so I can get the layout level on uneven floors.

I've taken delivery of a new piece of rolling stock.

The RapioTrainsUK OAA wagon.

When I say this blows the socks off the old Hornby model I am not joking.
Model weight is perfect, running right out the box is smooth, the detail is superb.

I would say well worth the price, if they release some RfD livery i'll have them.

I have also setup the layout for a home photoshoot, for no other reason than I wanted to.
This layout is intended to be an exhibition layout but I have yet to really put that out there so I am trying to improve the social media profile of the layout.

This will be a multi post update as I cannot put that many pictures in one.

I changed the wagons for the next set of photos.

A turbot and Pike take their turn, as well as 31 556, makes a change from just 08 485

The legs with the shelf this time, still needs a crossbeam to help with some wobble, but the weather has been shocking this last week so i've been unable to get out and finish it off.

This is looking fantastic! The square format gives a very real depth to the scene. That scratchbuilt gantry crane is an excellent bit of modelling, and creates a good focal point. And the foliage and weathering tones tie everything together wonderfully. Excellent work, looking forward to seeing what else you can do with this layout!

Thank you.
The crane is possibly one of my favourite things on the layout.

I am hoping to get it out to exhibitions in 2024
