westernviscount
The layout has moved and we have added a fiddle yard board at each end. This has taken up the bulk of club time recently so no more scenic work has been done. However, at home I have made a start on the goods shed. I have been using a black paper place holder for over a year. The delay has been obviously due to the layout "hardware" being built but also ai have been concerned about what the shed was built from. The books say wood construction and the other goods shed on the line are thus. However, pictures of Caia Road Shed suggest corrugated iron on at the least the ends. So, I have decided to bite the bullet and decided on the ends being corrugated as ifbrenewed at some point and the sides remaining as planks. This is the best I can determine from the available pictures. Lack of photos has been a problem so far but chances are the second I complete the building, a glut of photos with be unearthed!!! The carcass is mount cardboard clas with platikard. The corrugations are slaters which come as a blank A4 sheet of corrugations which I cut up into scale 6ft by 3ft sheets and debossed rivet heads on the reverse. Front wall alongside the wagon here is scribed plastikard to suggest planking. The lean to shelter frame is made up from 2mm I beam from evergreen. These were set into concrete bases which I have begun to suggest with plastikard and will fill with miliput. I cut a card template to build up the framework. I think it is all level! I am not convinced it matches the prototype exactly and I think it is too long but it is hard to determine from the pics I have. The pitch of the roof meant I had to limit the distance of the lean to from the main building as it would have been too low. More slaters corrugated for the lean to roof. This was cut into 6ft scale strips and debossed like the side cladding. The underneath looks quite pleasing also. I built the doors and runners as one module to attach to the building. The measuremeants are taken as a comparison of the photo I have. The doors appear to be the heaight of a standard wagon side. This shows the doors mounted. I have also corrugated the roof including what I think where translucent panels for lighting. I have also put gutters on and a downspout on the shelter. The photo suggest a narrow landing for offloading and loading wagons. I can make out the nearest stair/ladder and have assumed it is mirrored on the other end. It might have extended further but I have no photos to the contrary of what I have modelled. The steps are built from 2mm strips of platikard for the strings and 1.5mm for the treads. So far so absorbing!! This is the bit I love. 11 1
westernviscount
A bit more progress on the shed today... In the photo I have been using it is unclear what supports the platform but there definitely is something there. I used 3mm square strip balsa to suggest wooden supports Further downspouts are needed and some development of the layout landforms before I can do the other side. 5

sb67
The layout is really coming along, the embankment is starting to look good, and the goods shed is a fine bit of modelling. looking forward to seeing it painted and weathered. Great stuff David 👍 2 1
westernviscount
Thanks Steve @sb67. I have done a bit more with the shed. I am sorting out fiddle yards still but some modelling happens when away from the layout... 5 2
