Due to the grand folks on RMweb, I avoided the Prairie with the dodgy rear wheels. Easily fixed, one might say but I have a backlog of fixes and enhancements, so I’d rather not add another to the end of the queue. I’m waiting for a second batch Prairie and I have sympathy for those who bought examples in the first run. When it comes to the Mogul, I have a first batch one and a second batch one. The second batch Mogul has been improved, especially the shade of green, but then there’s the problem of the blue-black paint on the second batch ones. Fingers crossed! I personally didn't have any problem with making the minor adjustment, took all of about 15 mins. However after attempting to run it slowly over some electrofrog points and the sound cutting out and restarting I surmised a keep-alive was needed. Much to my disappointment it's not possible with their factory sound chip so any future Dapol models I purchase I will be getting the bare-bones model and fitting a Loksound v5 and a TCS keep-alive because I refuse to spend this much on a sound model only to have it cutting out. Regarding their 28xx I was contemplating getting one however I've had to re-livery the Hornby one (which has outside steam pipes when it shouldn't have for pre-1935) so perhaps by the time it's released I will have a need for one. I note that my Accurascale Manor with Sound that arrived last week doesn't have this issue as it has a Keep-alive fitted from factory(even just the DCC ready models!) with this in mind the additional £40 it cost over the Dapol manor is really only £20 by the time you purchase a stay-alive. NeedCookie
Any official updates on this project from Dapol? They've gone eerily quiet.
KingEdwardII Posted Wednesday at 11:29 Share Posted Wednesday at 11:29 Crickets chirping is all I have heard. I sent a message to Dapol with a request for a date or an update and I've had nothing back. Yours, Mike. 1

RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted Wednesday at 15:15 RMweb Gold Share Posted Wednesday at 15:15 (edited) Well, I was going to post a tumbleweed GIF but lo, there is news this very day! https://www.Dapol.co.uk/blogs/news/oo-gauge-gwr-2-8-0-28xx-update Dapol have published CAD images of the proposed models such as this: There are also some comparative images of detail differences. KingEdwardII Posted Wednesday at 17:57 Share Posted Wednesday at 17:57 "Still reviewing CAD images" !! There is no way that this model will be in the shops in 4Q 2024. More like 2Q 2025 at the earliest. Well, at least we have had some news, even if it isn't particularly good. Yours, Mike.
Miss Prism Posted Wednesday at 19:24 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:24 I don't know what Dapol is trying to do with 2831. There's no way it could be backfeed with the rest of those features.
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted Wednesday at 19:38 RMweb Gold Share Posted Wednesday at 19:38 I’m confused too. Have 2804 and 2831 been mixed up?
ToledoRails Posted Wednesday at 20:37 Share Posted Wednesday at 20:37 The standout feature in the tooling seems to be how much depth they've put in between the frames to simulate valve gear. Looking forward to seeing the project develop.
Simond Posted Wednesday at 20:55 Share Posted Wednesday at 20:55 Given the CAD now exists, one might imagine a striking model in 7mm I scratch built mine a few years back, and I don’t suppose I could justify a second one…
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted Thursday at 05:36 RMweb Gold Share Posted Thursday at 05:36 One for the collectors: The Churchward Set. Full disclosure: I work on commission for Dapol and Hornby. They pay me 10,000 £ a month. 5

RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted Thursday at 09:43 RMweb Gold Share Posted Thursday at 09:43 On Facebook, Dapol recently asked people to report potential issues with CADs via their own forum rather than in FB posts. I guess the same applies to us on RMweb, especially since we don't know how much Dapol engage with RMweb... Their forum is here: https://digest.Dapol.co.uk/forum/main-forum/steam-aa (but there isn't a 28xx topic yet). 1

That forum looks pretty moribund to me. Very few recent posts. The lack of a topic for a product they want feedback on is not promising... Fredo Posted Friday at 07:39 Share Posted Friday at 07:39 Hi, saw the first CAD of the models, is 3802 going to be in BR Black with a 3500g tender as it was pre-preservation. Thanks Fred

34theletterbetweenB&D Posted Friday at 10:59 Share Posted Friday at 10:59 Second only to 0-6-0's I do like eight coupled freight locos, which between them earned much of the money that made the fun stuff possible. Catching up on this topic, the Dapol status looks very promising given the range of variations the tooling is specced to deliver, an 'original' verion as first in service just what I want. This will sit nicely alongside the Robinson GCR, Gresley GNR, Raven NER, Bowen-Cooke/Beames LNWR, RTR models. Joy indeed!
