RMweb Gold Popular Post Not Jeremy Posted March 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 8, 2023 (edited) My new book on the "Titfield Thunderbolt" has now gone to the printers and should be available to purchase from the 24th April. In the meantime it is now available to pre-order from the website, from the following link, that also gives the book's ISBN number: ISBN 9781912038565 All pre-orders placed through the web will receive two full colour greetings cards with their order, each image also featuring in the new book. The book is a hardback, priced at £28.95, 192 pages long, printed on to high quality gloss art paper and features 320 photographic images and 9 plans. It includes beautiful photographs, many of which have never appeared in print before, together with lots of information about the film, where it was made, the landscape in which it was made and the people who were involved in its production over seventy years ago. The book also represents twenty five years and counting of my interest and research on the subject, together with the multiple fruit of much generosity shown to me by the many people I have talked to and been in touch with over this period. Thank you very much to all of them, I hope that you all enjoy the result of our endeavours. And a huge "thank you" to Steve Phillips for all his help with the design of the book and so very much more besides. Photo Cty. and copyright Great Western Trust Thanks are also due to StudioCanal for their unfailing generosity and invaluable assistance in providing copies of their beautiful images of the film for the book. Here is just one of them, which appears in the new book. Photo Cty. and copyright StudioCanal Oh Sam, what a beauty... RMweb Gold Not Jeremy Posted April 20, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2023 I yesterday received an advance copy of the finished book and am very happy with how it has all come out. The downside is a slight delay to the main delivery - I am now advised that delivery into my warehouse should be on Friday 5th May. I may well open a bottle of fizz when they arrive! Thank you to everyone who has placed pre-orders, all securely recorded and "ready for action"...... Simon 14

RMweb Premium Tim Dubya Posted April 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 26, 2023 (edited) Thankfully there are men of sufficient faith (and patience) in Radstock... if I see him I'll let him know. RMweb Gold Not Jeremy Posted May 14, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2023 Thank you all so very much for your kind and positive comments, very much appreciated. As have been several emails from people who have received their copies. It is really nice when people enjoy something that one has had a hand in creating and it is also something of a relief to have finally got memories and photographs that have been so generously given or shared by many people over many years into print, and properly recorded for posterity. Tomorrow Charlie and I get stuck back in to sending out orders. Charlie took several copies up on the train to a family gathering over the weekend, It proved a bit of a hit with at least one family member, scene yesterday in Shropshire.... And the scene at the Junction on the day before.

VIA185
I'm loving it - and Limpley Stoke is looking great, too. Review going in August Steam World. (CJL) Edited May 20, 2023 by VIA185
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 21, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 21, 2023 I've now had a preliminary look at my copy and it is every bit as fascinating as I hoped it would be. Some absolutely stunning images for a start. Really well produced and a nice 'heavy and quality' feel to it. 1
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 24, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2023 Some absolutely stunning images in the book, some of which are professional quality ones taken by the studio's own cameraman. Some pictures in there of both Monkton Combe and Limpley Stoke stations that I've never seen before, despite trying to buy every book that ever came out about railways of the area!
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2023 One thing I didn't realise before, was that two 14XXs were involved in the filming, I wonder if Rapido will eventually include one in their forthcoming 'Titfield' range? I also didn't realise that the bulk of the filming was done at the eastern end of the Cam Valley line, with Dunkerton Colliery being the most westerly of the locations used (for the 'duel' between the train and the steam roller).

Three were involved as correctly noted on page 90 although one was behind the scenes so not ‘on film’ if that’s what you meant? I spent a while watching the film on slowmo to identify 1462 in the start of the stealing sequence. Edited May 26, 2023 by PaulRhB

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted May 27, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2023 We shall forgive this lapse but you may have to present Simon with a ‘pasty of penance’ for not absorbing such information from him by osmosis, or whatever the pasty equivalent of that is 😆
