gr.king
I might be in central Scotland around those dates, oddly enough. Which 50 layouts and which 120 traders have to be key questions though...
gr.king
I've spotted the links to the lists, in small type well-down the Model Rail Scotland home page now. Edited January 3, 2023 by gr.king

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted January 4, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) Looking forward to taking Deadmans Lane north of the border. With it being a 3-day show, it's possible that we may do some stock-swapping over the 3 days, giving one or two of the less run rakes and locos to have a spin. p.s note to organisers - no apostrophe in Deadmans.......... 😉 (edit - sorted!) woodenhead
Looks like another awesome line up. What a pity that just as I was about to book bargain return journey on Avanti from Warrington for £28 yes £28 on the Friday, I was politely reminded by Mrs W that our son is getting married on the Saturday. After our recent escapade to Chester from Manchester, Mrs W has absolutely zero confidence that I would not get stuck in Glasgow and either arrive home very very late or be on a train the following morning with very little chance of being at the venue. And there is not a cats whisker of a chance I could get up to Glasgow on the Sunday after a day of Gin..... So I have to decline a visit to Glasgow this year, I was so close to booking, soooooooh close.
Jim49
Could you not ask your son to postpone the wedding? After all Model railway Scotland is always the last weekend in February and he should have known that so it's all his fault. No, you may not send Mrs Woodenhead up here to speak to me about my suggestion, I get the message. Jim 1 4

When they do attend, it's a big old affair - a lot of people and a lot of stock - costs to bring all that to a show. It's not like all those items are not available via the internet as Rails has a massive online presence through it's own site and Ebay. That space at Model Rail can go to other trade or layouts. RMweb Gold Kaput Posted January 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 8, 2023 2 hours ago, woodenhead said: Why? Because they've always been a sizeable presence at the bigger shows like Model Rail Scotland, both in terms of the size of their stand and the amount of people crowded round them all day. If they are scaling back their exhibition attendance then fair enough - haven't seen any mention of that on their own website or anything.

If they are scaling back their exhibition attendance then fair enough - haven't seen any mention of that on their own website or anything. They only started doing shows around the same time as they began really growing the business and commissioning locos like the Terrier if I recall. It was part of the promotional element to let people know they exist and to promote their own commissions, they brought along secondhand stock to bolster the offering. Around the same time Hattons began doing similar, but only a promo stand for their own products without a sales element. Takes a few people to man the stand, and Model Rail is over three days - that's an extra day of people working away from the store/warehouse impacting the day to day side of the business. They could probably achieve similar income by offering a discount on the Ebay store over the same weekend without all the costs of transporting all that stuff to a show, post Covid but in the middle of the main flu period and during this inflationary period that might be more attractive to them than the weekend in Scotland. gr.king
Rails have been doing model railway shows in the middle and eastern parts of England for many years, probably twenty or more.

RMweb Premium Legend Posted January 9, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 9, 2023 I think they've been to Model Rail Scotland for a good few years . I certainly remember them launching the MacIntosh 812. Shame they are not there this year as I think they had a good selection of second hand .
