SouthernBlue80s
Class 20 with buffer beam detail. First coat of frame dirt and muck colour on the roof going to aim for a sun bleached effect on this one. It will be numbered 20055. Trying to add more detail to my hoppers. Very fiddly, so just a bit at a time. Cheers Steve

SouthernBlue80s
Paint knocked back with white oil paint. First time I have tried this tequnique. Dirt on the front ends. And a coat of wet weathering powder. 6 1 1
SouthernBlue80s
Weathering knocked back and detail picked out on the bogies. So the basics are done. I am going to put this down for a few days now. Lots of fine tuning needed. It will be numbered soon. And knocked back with my light powder teqnique. The white oil paint didn't really work for me. Perhaps it was the paint I was using. Cheers Steve Edited November 3, 2022 by SouthernBlue80s

There's no harm in trying new techniques, that's how we learn new things, and if it works that's fine, but if it doesn't then there's always the one we know to fall back on. Trying new things is one of the joys of our hobby! Roja 1

Hoping to finish the 20 early next week.

Can't tell it's not real no matter what I look at. Thank you Simon. I have been off the forum for a while and am now beginning to find the time to get back into it. I am always on the look out on ebay for another reasonably priced Hornby 08 to muck about with. I will post up a few more of the older pictures and then concentrate on work in progress.
SouthernBlue80s
I have a set of 5 21t coal hoppers. Two Parkside rebodied I built Two Hornby riveted which I am changing into welded One Hornby riveted And two different styles of weathering. So I am adding the detail where missing and I hope to weather them all so they look similar ish. We shall see how it all turns out. The random looking rake Adding wire and bits of plasti card. And this is the weathering effect I want on them all. Cheers Steve 6 1
SouthernBlue80s
Discs are on. And it has been numbered with a mixture of Fox and Railtec transfers. Final weathering stage to come. Edited November 7, 2022 by SouthernBlue80s 6

SouthernBlue80s
Some more of the previous pictures. Including 47324. I cobbled this together out of bits of Heljan 47s, made the hand rails and the primer Headcode. This was the condition it was in when I first saw it. 8 1
SouthernBlue80s
The 20 is 99% finished. I will revisit it in a week or so. The grease on the buffers looks a bit light for example. Taken in poor light. But here she is in the grot of Boxchester yard.
SouthernBlue80s
Rudd is almost finished. I have carved out bits from the top edge to give it a more batered feel. The underframe needs more work. The five coal hoppers. Are to the next stage, all the detail is on. Base coats of paint are now on. Still quite a bit to do. Another paint layer and removal and fine tuning. So work in progress. But they are beginning to look like a rake that belong together.

SouthernBlue80s
Coal hoppers now finished 99%. I will have another look at them in a few weeks. Two do not have loads in yet, need to find some also for my 16tonners. Here they are, battered and rusty sat in a South Wales yard late 70s early 80s. 7 3

Thank you for the encouragement. I think of it a bit like a 3d painting. I have such good memories of the atmosphere and smells of the railways in the early 80s, I just want to recreate a bit of it in miniature.
