SouthernBlue80s
16t Parkside kit adapted. Built as a vacumed brake version. I want to create a diaroma with coal being unloaded in the yard. Progress so far. It needs coal, figures, coupling hooks and the weathering finished. Cheers Steve
SouthernBlue80s
Still more to do. How it looks so far. I am going to put it down for a while now. Coal dust and a half unloaded coal load next. 8

marc smith
Nice weathering again sir :) I do like to see well weathered, beaten & rusty wagons - especially in a grimy setting, with plenty of weeds, detritus, muck and bits & pieces of rusty scrap metal strewn around the place....... and apparently, my Doctor says there's no cure! ;)

Here is another picture of my batch of recently completed 21tonners in the grime of Boxchester yard. Just as we remember them :) I currently have five I have kit built or RTR stuff heavily modified....now looking for new victims to be hacked about. 12 2

sb67
Just found your new thread Steve, always good to see your work, I've got a few locos to work on, so I'll be looking for some inspiration. Regarding the class 20, I want to try knocking back paintwork using oil paints, what was it that didn't work for you, did you apply a coat of matt varnish first at all? Steve.

I was pretty pleased with the 20 Steve but I felt in parts it looked like it had been hauling aggregates not faded through sun exposure. So started this thread. I might try the oil brusher paints mentioned in the thread next. This is my faded 08 which I am pleased with. But its all a learning curve and would like to try new techniques. Also to add Steve, I am not convinced of the quality of the oil paint I was using. Edited December 24, 2022 by SouthernBlue80s 6 1

RMweb Gold Kevin Johnson Posted January 25, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 25, 2023 Steve lovely pictures mate.👍 Is there any chance you can take an overall picture of Boxchester without any rolling stock and locos on it please. Your layout is inspiring.

Your layout is inspiring. Hello Kevin. Managed to take some pictures for you. An overview. The single track mainline runs in the background. It is in my mind split into three connected dioramas in the foreground. To the left is the stabling point. In the center is the fuel point and to the right is the yard. All the stock is stored underneath and the layout can be lifted off and turned round to get different perspectives. I started it about 12 years ago and slowly expanded it and hacked things about and improved things. I am now very happy with it. My one bug bear is the track. I really wish it was bullhead, not code 75,100. But RTR bullhead did not exist when I started and I knew nothing about building track and I might be a bit rubbish at it anyway. Given the many hours I have put into it I haven't the heart to rip it up and start again with bullhead. Overview Stabling point Center fuel point Yard Cheers Steve 6 1
SouthernBlue80s
I have been shopping. So some new weathering projects Firstly a new Heljan class 25. This will be renumbered and detailed as 25190. A very nice model...but the ends are lemon yellow! Heljan often can not seem to get it right. This might be my last model from them. Two 08s. My existing 08375 now has the correct underbelly tanks so they will be weathered in. And the new Liverpool street pilot will become a very faded WR air braked machine, not sure which one yet. Want to get together a bit of a random engineering train. So bought some wagons for 10pounds each, which I was pleased with, except the van wide which is new. Also picked up three coal wagons at 10pounds each So that lot will keep my occupied for a while. sb67
Look forward to seeing your new purchases fade, weather and rust! 08835 is a nice example. I'm really trying to pluck up the courage to have a go at some stuff!

I hope it goes well, we shall see! The trouble is with new stock it tends to be very expensive these days. So mucking it up can be expensive.

Both, I've done some wagons but not yet braved a new loco. I've just re painted a Lima class 31 so may have a go at that, I like the way you've weathered your blue diesels so I'll be reading back through your threads. My problem is there are so many methods, I look at them all and get overwhelmed with it! I also have trouble looking at photo's and working out how to replicate it. I've a couple of industrial loco's I could start with too.

I've a couple of industrial loco's I could start with too. I think most of my pictures from previous weathering attempts were all lost. So I will re-post up a step by step as to how I approach it. I guess find one approach to it that works for you and stick with it. 2
