Esu class 57 sound decoder

Hi All 

Am after so advice I've bought a esu legomanbiffo class 57 sound chip but it has a sugar cube attached to it like in the picture but I ordered a double iPhone speaker do I keep the sugar cube on the chip then solder the iPhone to the chassis on the Bachmann class 57 in double can so help me just don't want to blow anything up cheers Paul 16537298528228503737568281902440.jpg.d822255d5c9908403b4a89c76cdcc341.jpg

Hi, the sound output of the sugar cube speaker is relatively quiet and lacking in bass reproduction. I would advice removing it and only installing the double iPhone speaker. You could attach the iPhone speaker using the speaker wires of the decoder or if speaker + & - pads exist on the loco PCB, solder the wires of the iPhone speaker to these pads (remove or insulate the speaker wires of the decoder if you use the second method).

Since the iPhone speaker is already a double, I would not retain the sugar cube. I do have other installations where I have two speakers in parallel or series, depending on the overall impedance rating of the combos. current ESU LokSounds usually cope with 4 or 8 ohms, so two 4 ohm speakers need to be in series, whereas two 8 ohm speakers need to be in parallel. Watch out for LokSound Micro decoders though: I think they are rated for 8 ohm only, but check this.

Hi yes I did undo the sugar cube and soldiered the double iPhone speaker where it said sp1 sp2 and it worked great thanks for the comment Paul

All sorted now just didn't want to blow anything up thanks for the comment though cheers Paul
